Elijah Bell ‘E.B.’ Vann Jr.

Elijah Bell “E.B.” Vann, Jr. died Sunday, March 11, 2007, at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital in Demopolis. Graveside funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at Rosemont Cemetery in Uniontown with Rev. Ronnie Blankenship and Rev. Lee Tate officiating. The family will receive friends at Uniontown Church of God on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.

E.B.’s parents, Elijah Bell Vann, Sr. and Lilly McCrory Vann; his son, Jerry Lee Vann; his great granddaughter, Kymberlee Wilson; two sisters, Sally Powell and Betty Stringer, one brother, Joe Vann preceded him in death.

Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Vann of Uniontown. One daughter, Brenda (Huett) Brunson of Browns, AL. Three sons, James (Margaret) Vann, Thomas (Tammy) Vann and Gordon (Mary) Vann all of Uniontown. His twin sister, Lucy Waden of Halsell, AL.

Eight grandchildren; Fifteen great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Charles Gills, Brian Fortner, Huett Brunson, Timothy Vann, David Vann and Andy Gates.

Vann has resided in Uniontown for over 80 years and retired from the maintenance department with the Perry County, Alabama school system.

Vann was known in his community as “E.B. Vann, The Paperman” because he delivered newspapers for The Selma Times Journal for 28 years and The Birmingham News 24 years. He was of the Baptist faith.

Thomas Wesley Hedrick

Thomas Wesley Hedrick, age 68, died today, Sunday, March 11, 2007 at his home after an extended illness.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at Kidd-Robbins Funeral Chapel with Rev. Richard Scott officiating.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at Kidd-Robbins Funeral Chapel from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.

Burial will follow in Demopolis Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.

Mr. Hedrick was preceded in death by his son, Michael Lindley Hedrick; his parents, Willard Linley Hedrick and Ruth Adlyse Acker Hedrick and a sister, Mary Ada Hedrick; sister-in-law, Opal Booen.

Survivors include his loving wife of 33 years, Gail Phillips Hedrick of Demopolis.

One daughter, Amelia Lynn Ulrich and her husband, Gary of Wetumpka.Two sons, Eric (Tracey) Roman of Demopolis, Lucas Chad Hedrick and his wife, Deborah of Gallion; daughter-in-law, Nita Hedrick of Eufaula. Fourteen grandchildren, Summer Roman (Robbie) Carroll, Hayden Roman, Hannah Roman, Cade Daily Hedrick, Thomas Ulrich, Phillip Ulrich, Ryan Hedrick, Lauren Hedrick, Trey Hedrick, Josh Stevenson, Beck Yon, Jamie Roman, Jacob Nored, Shawn Grady; mother-in-law, Velma Phillips; Brothers and sisters-in-law; Ruth and Billy Symon, Julia and Jim Daily, Ronnie and Sharon Phillips, Dean and Sandra Booen; a host of uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Bert Hedrick, Jr., Jerry Pate, Kenny Harless, Joe Bedsole, Wayne Baker and Dean Booen.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Charles Gross and Lee, Dr. Paul Ketcham & Dr. Keith Dismuke Staff., Dr. Ann Lewis and John, Dr. Grurich, Westside Baptist Church Family, Randy Hannah, Frankie Hannah, Charles Hedrick, Dr. Salinas, Amedysis Home Health Care, Asera Care Hospice.

Hedrick was born in Columbus, MS and

a resident of Demopolis for 33 years and a retired employee of Gulf States Paper with 38 years of service where he served as a chemical engineer. Mr. Hedrick also was a member of Westside Baptist Church and retired from the Alabama National Guard after more than 20 years of service.

Betty Ann Abbott

Betty Ann Abbott, 59, of Selma died Saturday, March 10, 2007. She was born on Friday, Dec. 3, 1948, in Maplesville, daughter of the late Alvie D. Fisher and Ella Mae Fisher Cook.

She was a homemaker.

Surviving are her mother, Ella Mae Fisher Cook of Selma; son, Benjie (Allison) Abbott of Maplesville; daughter, Carla Abbott of Maplesville; four grandchildren; two sisters, Sue (Marshall) Haigler of Mapleville, and Edith (Max) Williamson of Maplesville; two brothers, Buddy (Judy) Fisher of Milton, Fla., and Douglas (Darnell) Fisher of Montgomery; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Buddy Abbott, and father, Alvie D. Fisher.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 Monday, March 12 at Martin Chapel. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at Maplesville Baptist Church with the Rev. Ty Parten officiating. Interment in Pilgrim Rest Cemetery, Maplesville.
