CLANTON — The Selma volleyball team fell to 1-6 with losses to Isabella and Chilton County in a tri-match Tuesday afternoon.

The Saints fell to Chilton County 25-7 and 25-18. Isabella — ranked No. 7 in Class 1A — picked up where the Tigers left off, beating the Saints 25-9 and 25-16.

“I feel like it’s a building season,” said Selma coach Lindsay Ehlers. “We’re going to change a few things up, and I feel good about where we’re going.”

If the Saints are going to improve, they’ll have to follow the lead of senior captains Quatishia Coleman and Amber Stevens.

“There’s a lot of heart in this team,” said Ehlers. “They really step it up, and they lead the team in experience.”

The Saints play at St. Jude on Thursday.

Morgan-Macon East

CECIL — The Macon-East Knights gave the Morgan Academy Senators a run for their money Tuesday evening, but the No. 1 Senators regrouped and improved their season record to 7-0.

Catherine Armstrong led the Senators with 14 assists and eight aces. Summer Pugh chipped in 10 kills and 17 assists, and April Clark added nine kills. Dee Griffin led the team with 15 digs.

“It was a nail-biter but we pulled through it,” said Morgan coach Jennifer Moore. “They made a lot of mistakes.”

Morgan fell 25-17 in the first game. The Senators bounced back to win 25-17 in both games two and three.

But the Knights fought back to take game four 26-24 and force a fifth game. The Senators won 15-6.

Morgan plays at Clarke Prep on Thursday.
