More need to cast ballots

The Selma City Council meets today to review provisional ballots and certify the election.
Less than 25 percent of the registered voters in this city bothered to cast a ballot.
But last November, the county voting precincts (including those in Selma) set record votes in a federal election. Oh, yes, the argument that most people vote in those elections because they are so big and so much is at risk.
Nobody has seen President Obama in Selma since he came for the bridge crossing Jubilee when he was a "maybe" candidate for president. He spoke of Selma several times in speeches across the campaign trail. He is the first mixed-race president, identifying as an African-American. Record votes elected him.
The maxim is that all politics is local.
Obama will not fix our schools. Obama will not see the infrastructure of this city repaired. Obama will not live in Selma or work in Selma.
We will.
We need to turn our faces toward home and vote in the Dec. 8 runoff.

It's too late for the voters who did not vote on Oct. 27 to make a real difference. Those candidates left don't offer much to choose from.
