Local principals attend conference

Published Tuesday, November 3, 2009

SELMA — Principals from several of the city schools here are attending the annual fall conference of the Alabama Association of Elementary School Administration and Alabama Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, sponsored by the Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools.

The conference runs from Monday to Wednesday and in Orange Beach. Principals will attend workshops discussing technology for assisting in time management, creating a safe environment in schools and how to avoid financial pitfalls.

Since this is a statewide conference, doesn't it make more sense to hold it in a central location, not in a high-dollar area like Orange Beach that is was on the other side of the state from half of the attendees? More waste.

"Principals will attend workshops discussing technology for assisting in time management, creating a safe environment in schools and how to avoid financial pitfalls."

I'd say lesson number one is save time by locating the meeting in a central location. And, lesson two should be save money by locating the meeting in a central location with cheaper lodging, meal costs, and travel costs for attendees.

I agree, but if it were held in Montgomery or a similar place they wouldn't go. . . . lol

The article was not comprehensive concerning the topics this conference covered. Principals were able to complete some of the state mandated requirements for Professional Learning Units.
The location is rotated. Last year was Montgomery and next year it will be in North Alabama. This makes it as fair as possible for everyone. It is held in conjunction with another organization to assist in saving money.
The facility has to be large enough to house 350-400 participants plus vendors and the conference leaders.
