The $20 million will have to be re-paid along with the raising of another $10 million. Has everyone lost their minds?!? They don't even have a month in reserves now, according to Ms. Smith in todays article.

Some people are never satisfied. They just keep wanting to cause misunderstanding among the voters.

alabamaWOW: what is so misunderstanding about needing and being able to afford? Don't worry, I've been dissatisfied with Selma's incompentents for 9 years with one foot in South Alabama and the other foot pointing that direction. Once I close several businesses here I will let the well wishers pay for the bills in Selma. The less citizens (paying voters) we have the more for you to pay.

I heard on NPR news today that households considered to be at the poverty level in ALABAMA pay the HIGHEST income taxes in the entire USA. Our Selma City Schools are composed of about 90% of students from those households. Instead of complaining about efforts to enhance their learning environment, why not make good use of this time as an opportunity to thank Adonai for HIS goodness and ask HIM for guidance and wisdom for these leaders as we would if we were facing an inoperable CANCER. HOWEVER, if any ARE simply REPULSED by the idea of enhancement PERIOD...just ask Adonai to give you blindness that you can't SEE and deafness that you can't HEAR, or an inoperable CANCER. Then may you find something worth talking to Him, about.

"I heard on NPR news today that households considered to be at the poverty level in ALABAMA pay the HIGHEST income taxes in the entire USA"
This statement is simply NOT true. Here is the actual statement from blog.al.com (also NOT true):
"A national study released Wednesday showed Alabama makes families living in poverty pay higher income taxes than any other state"
Again if you read this carefully, it is NOT true. What SHOULD have been said/written is that families in Alabama living in poverty pay more in income tax than families at the poverty level in other states. The way you quoted it and the way it reads is VERY misleading. Thus it gets people all hyped up and sad for the poor working people who earn wages at or below the poverty level. That leads to making judgment with emotion rather than logic.
Be careful what you read and hear, especially on NPR...
Also what the article quotes is that a 3 member household making the poverty level $17,165 pays $333 in income tax. Really? That's less than 2%... Yeah that's certainly "killing the poor". Again, you have to delve into the facts, as reading these interpretations are VERY misleading. I am not necessarily for not reducing income tax on what so many call "poor" but 2% is hardly a burden. Thus the "poor are taxed to death" argument is total BS.
"BARBARIC!"

Tigerfan, you just DISPELLED that my friend!!! NPR is known for being a "liberal" media outlet and putting out information like this is very misleading. If NPR or any other media are going to release information like this...they should make sure to give ALL THE FACTS instead of half the truth. We can already see that some are mislead just from this article.
On the other hand, take a look at the middle class in this country. That is the class of people that are being screwed over left and right. Not only does this class work the jobs, pay the taxes....but never get any breaks and damn sure don't qualify for any programs of assistance. This government taxes your income almost 40%, your food, your clothes, your house, your land, your cars and all the way down to the bed you sleep in. Then on top of that our money is paying for others food, housing, education, etc. etc etc.
