Gerald Marin Scrushy

Gerald Marin Scrushy, 82, died Monday, June 20, at a local hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, at Church Street United Methodist Church with Rev. George Sedberry and Rev. Doug Williams officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow at Pineview Memory Gardens.

Family visitation will be Wednesday, June 22 from 6-8 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home.

Survivors include wife, Jean H. Scrushy of Selma, sons, Richard M. (Lesile) Scrushy of Birmingham and Gerald P. (Kimberly) Scrushy of Birmingham. Daughter, Demisha W. Scrushy of Birmingham. Step-children, Charles Wayne (Suzanne) Friday of Selma, Gary Michael (Robin) Friday of Macon, Ga., Dianne Friday (Mike) Bean of Robertsdale, AL., and Jeannie Friday (Michael) O’Malley of Montgomery, AL. Brothers, George Edwin (Julie) Scrushy, William Rex (Sue) Scrushy, Jack Mansel (Jo) Scrushy. Sisters, Millicent Lenora McGee, Mary Olive Brewer and Margaret Rose Ford. Sister-in-law, Carole Scrushy, 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, eight step grandchildren and one step great-grandchild. Two close family friends, Paula Smith and Robin Daniels.

Mr. Scrushy was predeceased by his first wife, Grace Pinckard Scrushy, father, George M. Scrushy, mother, Margaret Maude S. Hansel, and brother, Richard Thomas Scrushy.

Mr. Scrushy was employed by NRC for 43 years, and was a veteran of WWII. He continued his commitment to his country by remaining in the Army Reserve for many years. Mr. Scrushy was an active member of Selma Quarter Back Club and Church Street United Methodist Church. Winston Churchill said that &8220;We make a living by what we make, but we make a life by what we give&8221;. Gerald M. Scrushy has made a living and a life.

Pallbearers will be Mike Plaia, Martin Adams, Jimmy Henderson. Richard Pinckard, Phillip Daniels, Doug Nichols, Otis Tarver and Gary West.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Barronton, Floyd Bowman, Rex Middleton, Bill Bailey, Wayne Friday, Gary Friday, Mike Boan and Mike O’Malley.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Selma- Dallas County Public Library, 1103 Selma Avenue, Selma, AL 36701 or Church Street United Methodist Church, 214 Church Street, Selma, AL 36701.

Sudie W. Baldwin

Sudie W. Baldwin, 94, died Monday June 20, 2005, at a Birmingham hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday June 23, 2005, at the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with the eulogy given by Mr. Harold Bryson and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in Pineview Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Family visitation will be Thursday from 9:30 -10:30 a.m. at the Funeral Home.

Mrs. Baldwin is survived by her children, Randolph &8220;Randy&8221; Baldwin (Vicki) of Selma, Jeanette (Bill) Wall of Huntsville, Beatrice (George) Anderson of Valparaiso, Fl, Evelyn (Harold) Bryson of Foley, Al. Grandchildren are Chuck Baldwin, Charles Anderson, Richard Anderson, Roger Anderson, Greg Bartee, Travis Bartee, Lynette Brantley, Brenda Clemons, Cindy Melton, Tania Baldwin, and Lisa Baldwin. She has 14 great-grand children, and three great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Olie Baldwin of 67 years and two sons, Stanley Baldwin and Frederick Baldwin.

Mrs. Baldwin was retired from Bayuk Cigar Factory and volunteered at Vaughan Regional for many years as a pink lady.

Pallbearers are Greg Bartee, Travis Bartee, Chuck Baldwin, Richard Anderson, Charles Anderson, Roger Anderson, James Brantley and Darrell Melton.

Lewis Roy Nelson

Lewis Roy Nelson, 67, of Dallas County, died Thursday, June 16, 2005.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 23, at New Shady Grove M.P. Church with Bro. William Rudolph officiating. Burial will follow in Damascus Cemetery in Greenville, AL with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include three sons, Larry Peterson, McArthur Nelson and Charles Nelson; five daughters, Lucile T. Canty, Betty J. Johnson, Loretta A. Nelson, Rhonda D. Davis and Kimberly Davis; nine brothers; nine sisters; 23 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one son-in-law; three daughters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives; three devoted friends, Lee Maxwell, Danny Jones and Jerome Deese.
