The Alabama Democratic Party officially certified the results from the June 25th runoff for the state House of Representatives District 67 seat Monday.

Yusuf Salaam defeated LaTosha Brown in that race by 138 votes. Salaam received 4,955 votes to 4,817 votes for Brown.

Brown announced last week that she intends to contest the results. She confirmed her plans to contest the results again Monday afternoon.

She’ll have to hurry. According to Leigh Snodsmith, director of communications for the Democratic Party, anyone wishing to contest an election once it has been certified at the state level has just 24 hours to post an official complaint. The District 67 race was certified at 1:36 p.m. Monday.

“We do still plan to contest,” Brown said.

Snodsmith said that once a complaint has been posted, the next step would be for state party chairman Redding Pitts to appoint a panel to hear the complaint. The panel would be comprised of members of the State Democratic Executive Committee.

“The panel would then hear arguments from both sides,” Snodsmith said. “It’s just like a regular court case.”

The hearing must be scheduled no sooner than 10 days from the date of the date of the complaint, in order to give both sides time to prepare, she added.
