With football season right around the corner, and two-a-day practices only two weeks away, local programs are gearing up for the upcoming year.

Chilton County High coach Todd Reece said, “We have been holding our usual summer workout program, which consists of players having to work out in the weight room at least 15 times between June 10 and August 3rd. The coaching staff from McGill Toolen, out of Mobile, came up and put on a clinic for quarterbacks and receivers also this summer.”

Keith High head coach Harry Crum said, “We have a voluntary workout program during the summer, but I don’t have to worry. I know my players will be ready once fall practice starts.”

Selma High coach Jerome Harper said, “We have been running a volunteer workout program this summer, but the kids have been real good about participating. Some of our kids have been to summer workout camps at Auburn, and Alabama. I know when it is time to start two-a-day practices in August our kids will be ready.”

Rick Jackson, the new head coach at Meadowview Christian,

said, “We have been holding two-a-day workouts in the weight room, and running agility drills which help in conditioning the kids

for the upcoming year. One of the main things we have been trying to do is to instill a hard work ethic in the kids, which will help them on the field as well as off.&uot;

Morgan Academy head coach Robert Gartman said, “Our kids have been lifting weights this summer. We have had the weight room open to the team in the morning from 10 to 12 and in the afternoons from 4 to 7, and they work out for 45 minutes when they come in. We have also been working with the kid’s doing speed drills, and the conditioning part of it has been left up to the players to work with on their own.”

With first games for most schools only a month away, it will be interesting to see how everyone’s summer programs turned out.
