Hornets look to widen streak

Dallas County goes on the road for their first major challenge of the year Friday night to play Fayette.
Dallas County has averaged 59 points in their first two outings of the year, and it doesn’t look like much can slow them down. The Hornets put up 40 points in the first half last week against Holt. With a tandem of running backs like Clifford Lyons, and James Jones Jr. putting up over 100 yards each per game it looks as if the running game is the key to the Hornets offense.
But let us not forget about the strong Hornet defense that has played a strong part in Dallas Countys first two wins.
Fayette won their last game against Livingston 30-0 but should pose no major threat to Dallas County. The Hornets should roll one step closer to the playoffs with a victory against Fayette this week.

Keith at R.C. Hatch
Keith travels to Uniontown this Friday to take on R.C. Hatch at 7:30 p.m.
The Keith High Bears coming off a disappointing loss to Goshen last weekend 34-14, will be trying to get back over in the win column.
Despite having a running back with over a 100 yards rushing (Emit Dukes) Keith could only manage to put up 14 points last week. That should not be the case this week.
R.C. Hatch despite having a quarterback who threw for over 300 yard’s last week still could not break the states longest losing streak. When you throw four interceptions in a game it doesn’t matter how many yards you throw for, you are still going to have a hard time winning a game.
R.C. Hatch is giving up an average of 59 points a game, and little should change this week. Look for the Keith High Bears to go in and dominate with a running game that R.C. Hatch has little chance in stopping.

Central Christian at Cornerstone
So I have been wrong the first two weeks of predictions when it comes to the Warriors, but now I am getting a little scared to pick them to win. I don’t want to be the one who jinxes the wining streak.
Central Christian has looked impressive over the last couple of weeks bolstering a strong running attack, with a stifling defense.
This week look for much of the same out of the Warriors. They should stick with their strong running game, which means look for Javaris Burden to carry the ball as much as possible. If they can establish the running game they will slow the pace of the game down to where they need it, and it should allow them to play the kind of game they can win.
My apologies but like I said before I don’t want to be the one who jinxes the streak.

Selma High at Prattville
Selma High School has been off ever since they barely eked out their opening game against Southside. This week they take on a strong Prattville team on the road in a game where they have a chance to extend their winning streak to 2-0.
Prattville is coming off a loss to Central Tuscaloosa 25-20, and I am willing to bet they are not wasting any time dwelling on it.
The Saints are anchored by a strong running game in which Shedrick Effinger is the key. Another thing to look at though is any time that quarterback Jai MIller drops back in the pocket to pass he is a serious threat to take off, and run due to his tremendous speed.
Prattville has traditionally had a very good football team, and I don’t think this year will be much of a difference.
Look for Selma High to win in a very close ball game, and for Jai Miller to be the difference.

Southside High School at Handley
Southside goes into this week on a two game losing skid, and that something that they didn’t expect this season. Going into the year the Panthers felt strong about their chances to be a contending team in their division. Things aren’t over for them yet though. The first game loss to Selma high was not a region game, and didn’t really hurt anything but pride, but last week’s loss was to a region team, and effected them in the standings.
The Panthers are headed up by a good coaching staff, and it’s a little too early to count them out at this point. The panthers will go back to a strong running game that will make all the difference this week.
Look for the Panthers to rebound this weekend, and finally get into the win column against Handley.
Southside 25 Handley 13
Marion Military Institute at Demopolis
MMI used a strong running attack last week to try and defeat Shelby Academy, but they came up a little short.
Chad Metzer picked up 120 yards on 25 carries for MMI last week, and he should carry most of the load for them again this week.
If MMI can get their passing game on track with their running attack they should be able to keep the game close.
Look for the game to be close going into the fourth quarter, but Demopolis should squeak out the win.
Demopolis 21 MMI 18
Francis Marion at West Blocton
Francis Marion is coming off a heartbreaker last week in a loss to Northview 17-16, and West Blocton is coming off a trouncing by Tarrant 61-7. This should be a game in which both teams are looking to get back into the win column, but the bad thing about the situation is only one can.
Francis Marion used a strong running attack in their first win against Sunshine, and in their loss last week against Northview, and don’t look for a lot to change this week.
Look for Francis Marion to get back to their winning ways this week against West Blocton.

Wilcox Central at Eufala
Wilcox Central and B.T. Washington both picked up impressive wins last week over their opponents. Wilcox Central defeated B.T. Washington 32-6, and Eufala defeated Russell County 30-7.
Wilcox Central dropped their season opener to Sidney Lanier, but they seem to have found what they needed to get back on the winning track. The thing that cost them the game against Sidney Lanier was a lack of experience, but from the numbers they put up last week they seem to have matured pretty fast.
Look for Wilcox Central to spread the ball around pretty evenly, and to eventually take control of the game in the second half.
Wilcox Central 28 Eufala 14
Wilcox Academy at Lowndes
Wilcox Academy is on a two game roll with wins over Greenville, and Sumter. Lowndes dropped their season opener to Hooper, and they haven’t managed to recover yet.
Wilcox Academy uses a strong running attack led by Michael Monte, and Philip Merryman to wear down opponents, and their defense has been stellar.
Wilcox Academy should pound the ball hard at the young Lowndes defense all evening, and have little trouble putting the ball game away by the end of the first half.
Wilcox Academy 41 Lowndes 7
Morgan at Ft. Dale
Morgan is coming off an impressive come from behind victory where they beat Faith Academy 26-21, and Ft. Dale is coming off a nail biter where they lost by two points to Clarke Prep.
Morgan should stay with the strong rushing attack led by Owen Peak, and Robert Armstrong that led them to their first two wins. The Senators defense has been strong too due to a lot of returning players from last year.
This is the year where the Morgan Academy Senators take things into their own hands, and get back to their winning ways.
Don’t look for the streak to end here Morgan should roll over Ft. Dale.
Morgan 35 Ft. Dale 14
Meadowview at Faith
Meadowview had a tough time with defending 3A State Champs Monroe last week losing the game 28-0. Faith Academy dropped a heart breaker to Morgan 26-21 in the final minutes of the game.
Meadowview should be much improved after another hard week at practice, and they should give Faith a good game.
Faith after the loss to Morgan should be on the warpath to try and pick up the win. No one should forget that Robby James head coach for Faith Academy used to be the head coach at Morgan Academy, and is very familiar with the Selma area and its team’s.
In the long run Faith should wear down the Trojans, and win the ball game.
