‘The Rock’ crushes opponent in fund-raising arena

As Election Day creeps closer, contribution and expenditure reports for candidates show Democrat Hank &uot;The Rock&uot; Sanders with a titanic lead over his District 63 State Senate opponent, Libertarian Party candidate Richard Motes, who reported no funds received or spent.

A $30,000 contribution to Sanders was made by Alabama Voice of Teachers $30,000. Tennessee Valley Citizens for Economic Development and Trail handed over $15,000 each. The biggest expenditures reported by Sanders were to the Alabama New South Coalition, $15,000, and $9,000, in support of Chris Pitts’ campaign.

District 67 House Representative Republican candidate Mark A. Story beat out his opposition, Democrat Yusuf Salaam. Story’s largest contributor was Regina Story for $5,000. His biggest expenditure was to Screenco for $2,626.90.

Three businesses tied for the top spot for the most contribution to Salaam’s campaign. Philip Morris Inc., The Dakin Group and Six Pac, all donated $500.00. Salaam paid $1,500 each to Bush Signs and to Emma Mack, his only expenditures.

According to the Alabama Fair Campaign Practices Act, candidates running for a political position are required to document all contributions and expenditures &045;&045; whether by a person, group or business &045;&045; greater than $100.
