Valley Grande holds first council meeting

If the Valley Grande Town Council were a ship it would have set sail Monday night.
The council, which met at the Valley Grande Community Center, approved a number of taxes, said Mayor Herb Story.
Sales, rental, lease and lodging taxes were all given thumbs up by the council. Valley Grande’s sales tax will be 7 cents. Four cents will go to the state, 1 to the council and 2 for the town.
No one is currently affected by the rental, lease or lodging tax, but Story said they were passed Monday night in case future businesses spring up that will be affected by them.
Story added Valley Grande had no real estate or property tax.
The council also voted to use a private tax collection company &045;&045; Alatax. Story said the council wouldn’t be involved in the collection process at all; Alatax will collect money, then enter it into the town’s account electronically.
