At 3:30 p.m. today, Selma Police Chief Robert Green will award a certificate and cash prize to a 13-year-old girl who helped
Selma police teams capture a Montgomery murder suspect last Friday afternoon.
The suspect, who had been on the run from the Montgomery Police Department since April 19, was captured in Selma by two teams from the local police department.
Williams, 27, who was hiding out in the Selma area, was charged in connection with a shooting at a Montgomery night club, which killed one person and wounded two others.
Green and other ranking officers at the department formed the teams and began their search at the home of the suspect’s sister, who eventually told them where Williams was.
The arresting teams later found Williams hiding out in Room 109 of the Craig Motel on Highway 80 East.
After a chase through the woods, Detective Al Blackmon, Detective Mamie Hale, and Officer Ray Moore caught up with and arrested the suspect on Hood Street.
The detectives and officer were aided by the local girl who saw Williams run out of the woods.
