FROM STAFF REPORTS:

Selma’s Dixie Pre-Major All-Stars took the first step in their trip to the state tournament with an explosive comeback win over Chilton County last week in the district tournament.

Selma took the lead an 11-run seventh inning that left Chilton bewildered.

Unfortunately for the 15- and 16-year-old All-Stars from Selma, that got to find out what Chilton felt first hand on Sunday in Enterprise.

Hueytown exploded for 11 runs in the second inning and cruised to a 12-5 loser’s bracket win over Selma.

After a draining noon-time loss on Saturday, the Selma All-Stars were back in the heat on Sunday.

They managed just four hits and struggled with their control on the mound.

Jeremy Smith and Roman Paxton each doubled.

John Lawrence and Reid Buster singled for summer.

Selma, who lost a 2-0 heartbreaker to Oxford on Saturday, managed just eight hits for the tournament.

Selma took their only lead of the tournament in the top of the second.

Paxton doubled, was balked to third and scored on a wild pitch.

Things fell apart for Selma in the bottom of the inning.

Chris Sewell walked the bases loaded and was replaced by Reid Tolar.

Hueytown loaded the bases three times in the inning and by the time the smoke cleared Selma was down 11-1.

To their credit, Selma didn’t quit.

They responded quickly.

Selma scored four runs on a single hit.

Smith, who had set a tournament record for strikeouts on the mound Saturday, doubled home a pair of runs.

But it was too little, too late.

Lawrence held Hueytown to a single run the rest of the way, but Selma couldn’t get any comeback attempt started.
