Sorority holds radiothon

The women of Epsilon Sigma Alpha (ESA) and supporters raised $11,500 in gifts and pledges in a recent radiothon in cooperation with Radio Station WDXX-Dixie 100.

The 40-year-old Selma sorority which has 15 members has sponsored the benefit that supports the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital fight against childhood cancer for a number of years. The hospital is located in Memphis.

On hand were a dozen members and friends who manned the phones, along with station personnel.

Also present was Scott Hinsclewood of Memphis who serves on the St. Jude staff. Hinsclewood was a beneficiary of hospital care at St. Jude’s as a young person.

ESA sponsors a number of benefits during the year.

The next one will be held Friday, March 26 &045; a spaghetti luncheon to benefit Easter Seals. It will be a takeout event and service will be provided in the fellowship hall of Northside Baptist Church on Citizens Parkway.

According to Pat Vines, who is coordinating the event, tickets are $5 apiece and

must be reserved in advance by calling her at 872-5897 or contacting a member of ESA no later than March 24. Individual orders should be picked up at Northside from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 26. ESA will deliver group meals.

On Saturday, April 24, a benefit golf tournament will be held at the Ocmulgee Golf Course on Highway 22. For further information contact Vines.

Individuals who wish to contribute to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital may still do so by sending a check made out to the hospital to 3901 Merrifield Dr., Selma, AL 36703, by calling the radio station at 875-4487, or by sending the check directly to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 810, Memphis, TN 38101-0810. The sorority requests that &uot;Selma&uot; be placed on the memo line for checks sent to Memphis.
