William Lamar Mangham

William Lamar Mangham, 79, of Selma, died Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at a

local hospital.

Services are at 11 a.m. Friday, April 9, at the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Glenn Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Pineview Memory Gardens Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Mangham; children, Patricia (Kenneth) Dekay of Austin, Texas, Hazel Marie Ditollo of Birmingham and Dale (Jeannette) Mangham of Grandbay; numerous grandchildren; and nephews, Harvey Childers and Franklin Childers.

David Sidney Woods

David Sidney Woods, 81, Newbern, died Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at the home of his son.

Graveside services are at 4 p.m. Friday, April 9, at Newbern Cemetery with Dr. Paul Reitzer and Arthur Noland officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes Greensboro Chapel directing.

Survivors include one son, George Brooks Woods of Newbern; two daughters, Jean Woods Watson

and Sydney Woods Chasteen both of Newbern; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Woods was preceded in death by his wives, Barbara Morgan Woods and Evelyn Hemeway Woods, one brother, Jack Barrett of Ocala, Fla.

Active pallbearers are Frank Allen, Paul Owens, Jaye Washburn, Raymond Stokes, Dusty Hogue and Joe Heurion.

Honorary pallbearers are Archer Howell, Reginald Richardson, C.L. Tins, Pam Barrnette, Ollie Evans, Betty Kirk and Wallace Hogue.

Andrina Brown

Andrina Brown, 6 months, of Selma, died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at a Birmingham hospital.

Services are at 2 p.m. Friday, April 9, at the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home.

Burial will follow int Elmwood Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing..

Survivors include her parents, Letesia Shelton and Anthony Brown; grandparents, Rebecca Richard Peeples, Lorenzo Shelton and Lucile Hosea Brown; brothers, Eddie and Trayrone Ford; sisters, Quateshia and Quashavus Ford; aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of other family and friends.

Zola Mae Hunter

Zola Mae Hunter, 78, of Selma, died Monday, April 5, 2004, at her home.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 10, at Friendship Baptist Church in Minter, with Min. Arelia G. Hill officiating. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include two sons, John Hunter (Ellen) and Henry Hunter (Angela) of Selma; five daughters, Naythell Evans of Demopolis, Callie Nuggent of Newburgh, N.Y., Leatha King, Pat Bailey, JoAnn Hunter all of Selma; five sisters, Rev. Rebecca Capers of Flushing N.Y., Martha Gadsden (Thomas) Van Huse of Atlanta, Ga., Mary Gadsden (Jimmy) Smiley and Arelia (Eddie) Hill of Sumter, S.C. and Maude Grimes of Atlanta, Ga.; 36 grandchildren; one daughter-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by four children, Willie, William, Classie Mae and James.

Mrs. Hunter was born Sept. 17, 1925 to the late William and Anna Bright Gadsden in Minter. She received her education at Street Emanuel Training School. She confessed Christ early and joined Hopewell Baptist Church in Minter. After her marriage to the late John Hunter Sr., she joined Friendship Baptist Church. She was recently under the Rev. C.A. Lett of Calvary M.B. Church.

Laura Anne Johnson – Barrow

Laura Anne Johnson – Barrow, of Selma, died Tuesday, April 6, 2004.

Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 10, at Pleasant Grove M. B. Church, 566 Whitlock Ave., in Marietta, Ga.

Survivors include a loving son and daughter, Brit & Dedra; a mother; Doris R. Johnson; three brothers, Clarence Johnson of Hampton, Va., Jessie Johnson of Selma, and Terrance J. Johnson of Marietta, Ga.; and three sisters, Della Radford, Doris Jean Dawkins and Carol Johnson of Marietta, Ga.; and a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, J.C. Johnson and brother Calvin (Polly) Johnson.

Ms. Barrow was the daughter of Doris Johnson and the late J.C. Johnson.

She graduated from Tuskegee University and was commissioned in the U.S. Air Force in 1978. She was employed by Lockheed Martin Marietta in Marietta, Ga., as a software engineer.

Mary S. Perryman

Mary S. Perryman, of Haynevulle, died Thursday, April 1, 2004.

Services are at 12 noon Saturday, April 10, at New Shiloh P.B. Church with the Rev. George Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Hayneville Cemetery with Bell Funeral Home directing.

Mary L. Brown, 67, of Hayneville, (Collirene) died Sunday, April 4, 2004.

Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 10, at Mt. Gillard Baptist Church with the Rev. Roy McQueen officiating. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with Bell Funeral Home directing.

Darrick Earl Alexander

Darrick Earl Alexander, 46, of Selma, died Suinday, April 4, 2004, at a veteran hospital in Montgomery.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday. April 10, at Ellwood Community Church with the Rev. Gary L. Crum Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in East Salem Church with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his mother, Dorothy Alexander Brookins; three brothers, Shawn and Mark Brookins of Chicago, Ill., and Marvin Fails of Selma; two sisters, Sherron and Tunya Alexander of Chicago, Ill.; one nephew; one niece; seen aunts, Lillie Champagnie, Eloise Crawford, Shirley Smiley of Selma, Bettye McGhee of Chicago, Daisy R. Dunbar and Eloise Perry of Margaret and Dorothy Alexander of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; six uncles, Charlee Alexander of Detroit, John Alexander of Montgomery, Joe Alexander of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., Jessie Alexander of Chicago, Nathaniel Alexander of Ohio and Willie L. Crawford of Montgomery.

Joseph Strong Jr.

Joseph Strong Jr., 74, of Selma, died Saturday, April 3, 2004 in Houston, Texas.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 10, at Sandridge Baptist Church, River Road with the Rev. M.E. Brown and the Rev. Glenn King officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Mary L. Strong, two sons, Joseph Strong Sr. of Selma and Rico Strong of Montgomery; six daughters, Sadie (Rev. Glenn) King of Selma, Gwendolyn (Dennis) Dawson, Sharon (Marvin) Lake, Rhodia (Darren) McKenzie, Evelyn Strong all of Houston, Texas, Anita Thomas of St. Louis, Mo.; five brothers, Wesley Strong, Roosevelt (Carrie) Strong, James (Della) Strong, Robert (Mary Frances) Strong, Otis (Nellie) Strong all of Selma; three sisters, Sadie Robbins, Cora Minor, Leola Jackson all of Selma; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four son-in-law; two brothers-in-law; nine sisters-in-law.

Active pallbearers are grandchildren and nephews.

Mollie Mae James

Mollie Mae James, 75, of Dallas County, died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at her home.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 10, at Grove Hill AME Church with the Rev. Greg Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her husband, Roosevelt James; three sons, Jessie James (Betty) of Georgia, Cleophus James and Ronnie James (Paulette) of Selma; four daughters, Cheryl berry Robert of Selma, Christine Hill (Daryl) of Fairburn, Ga., Mazell James of Selma and Brenda Smith (Kevin) of Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, King Davis Sherrer (Linda) of Birmingham and Louis Sherrer (Ella) of Newark, N.J.; one sister, Elizabeth Sherrer of Delaware, Ohio; 12 grandchildren, Dwight James, Shorhonda Hill, Robin Berry, Ladiauris Richardson, Tabatha James, Exacia, Phlecia, Carlecia Hill, Jasmine, Nichole Ronnie Jr. James, Keshona James; great-grandchild, Jamiya Berry of Selma.; four brothers-in-law; three sons-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Walter Johnson

Walter Johnson, 60, of Selma, died Saturday, April 3, 2004, at a local nursing home.

Services are at 12 noon Saturday, April 10, at New Sandridge Baptist Church with the Rev. William Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include one son, Stacy Johnson of Selma; four daughters, Shenita Johnson, Jennifer Johnson, Patricia Johnson Carter, Shirley Eaton all of Selma; eight brothers; two sisters; 13 grandchildren; one son-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Active pallbearers are nephews.

Christopher Davis

Christopher Davis, 22, of Boligee, died Monday, April 5, 2004, at his home.

Services are at 12 noon Saturday, April 10, at Mt. Zoar Baptist Church with the Rev. Arthur Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with Larkin and Scott Funeral Home directing.
