Meadowview Christian School seniors were in a jovial mood as they gathered recently to talk about their school, their class and their life after high school. All 18 of the 20-member class present said they planned to go to college. Most said they had been admitted to the school of their choice. Many are going to receive scholarship assistance of various kinds.
Teacher Stephanie Piper, who serves as senior class sponsor, said the total of scholarships received might be as much as a million dollars.
As a group they displayed the mixture of sorrow of letting go of the old familiar and the desire to move on.
Comments made during the interview with the class included, “Great experience,” “Our class was really close,” “I like all our teachers,” “I’m as prepared as I can be but am also scared of college,” “The thing I liked least about Meadowview is the dress code,” “Don’t give up on what you believe in working for.”
The student going the farthest had a baseball scholarship to Virginia Wesleyan.
Piper, who has taught pre-Kindergarten for 11 years at Meadowview, said this was her first year as senior class sponsor. And she said she loves it.
Her responsibilities include overseeing graduation exercises and providing general guidance during the year.
“They’re a good group of kids,” she said. “They’re very active in extracurricular activities here at the school.” She concluded, “I wish them the best.”
Class valedictorian is Hailey Morrison and Katherine Denise is salutatorian.
Noah Reid and Courtney Johnson have been elected by the faculty as this year’s Mr. and Mrs. Meadowview. The award is based on academics, leadership qualities, attitude and school spirit. The award is given annually to the most qualified students. According to information provided by the school, Reid and Johnson “through their lifestyle and attitude achieve the goals set before them and help other students want to achieve their goals as well.”
Baccalaureate services will be held May 23 at 2 p.m. at Valley Grande Baptist Church. Graduation exercises will be held on Wasden Field on the campus of the school at 7:30 p.m. on May 25.
