The Selma-Dallas County Head Start Program held a public health fair on Friday as part of their continuing effort to increase access to preventive health care services.

At least 15 different community organizations, ranging from the Dallas County Health Department to American Cancer Society, set up tables at the Dallas-Selma Community Action Agency to provide information to anyone interested.

The event was also an opportunity to provide screenings for high blood pressure and other common health ailments.

Mayor James Perkins, who made a quick stop at the Health Fair, said he was always glad to see community agencies working together to help the people of Selma.

Jessica Chestnut, Head Start Director, said a healthy lifestyle plays a important role in children’s growth.

Chestnut said the Head Start program is a active partner with many of the agencies that participated in the health fair in order to

provide quality medical services to their students.

The health fair took place throughout most of the day, and refreshments were served to those who attended. Drawings for special prizes were also held during the fair.
