The Morgan Academy Senators defeated the Meadowview Christian Trojans 7-1 at Morgan Field Thursday in AISA baseball action.
Zach Hughey took the win on the mound for the Senators, pitching seven complete innings and striking out seven. The Senators win gave Morgan a sweep of the season series between the long-time rivals.
Robert Armstrong and Jeremy Smith each went 2-3 and scored once. Robert Collins, Allen Callaway, Ben Callaway, Eric Pilcher, and Blanton Callen all had hits for Morgan.
Murray Keasler went the distance on the mound for Meadowview, taking the loss for the Trojans. Dustin Lee, Tyler Wendel, Chris Sewell, and Spence Roe all had hits for Meadowview in the losing effort. Roe had Meadowview’s RBI.
In the first inning, Morgan took a 1-0 lead when Armstrong scored from third base on Smith’s sacrifice fly to center.
Holding that slim lead, Morgan exploded for five runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Smith had a one-out double and Blake South walked before A. Callaway hit a RBI double. After B. Callaway was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Pilcher tripled to score three more Morgan runners. Josh McAteer then hit a RBI sacrifice fly to make the score 6-0.
Medowview’s chance for a rally came in the top of the sixth inning. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Roe hit a deep drive to left-center that was chased down, and Lee, who singled earlier in the inning, scored from third on the sacrifice. Morgan then turned a nice double play to end the threat from the Trojans.
The Senators scored one more run in the bottom of the sixth when Robert Collins stole third with a wild throw allowing him to come home to make the score 7-1. The Morgan Academy Senators are back in action at home Monday, playing a doubleheader against Pike Liberal Arts starting at 3:30.
