Joseph Ervin
Joseph “Bay Lou” Ervin, 56, of Selma, died Saturday, May 15, 2004.
Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 22, at Shiloh M. B. Church in Selma, with the Rev. Joshua Davis. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.
Survivor include three brothers, Albert Ervin Jr. (Dorothy), Jesse Crocheron both of Selma and Freeman Crocheron of Detroit, Mich.; nine sisters, Rosetta Johnson (David), Mary Barlow, Bertha Marsh, Betty Ford and Gracie Glover all of Selma, Phyllis Boykin, of Rockaway, New York, Ethel Cheeseboro of Charleston, S.C., Margaret Allen of Cleveland, Ohio and Lucille Wells (Van) of Long Island, N.Y.; one aunt, Julia Waddell of Uniontown; one uncle, Joseph Ervin of Mobile; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friend.
Mr. Ervin was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Sir and Ethel Ervin, one brother, Charles Ervin and one sister, Lucille Ervin.
Active pallbearers are nephews and friends.
William Edward Grindle
William Edward “Billy” Grindle, 76, of Minter, a native of Autaugaville, died Tuesday, May 18, 2004.
Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 20, at the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with the Reverend Elwood Sims officiating. Burial will follow at Pineview Memory Gardens with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Betty Coon Grindle; sister Laura Bender of Selma; children, David Grindle (and wife Mary Van) of Houston, Texas, Kathy Harrison (and husband Billy Mack) of Selma, Don Grindle (and wife Katherine) of Ormond Beach, Fla.; grandchildren: Michelle, Matthew, Will, Matthew, Zach, Walker, and Meg; and great-grandchildren Byron and Jackson.
Active pallbearers are grandsons and grandson-in-law, Blake Jones, Matthew Mooney, Will Grindle, Matthew Grindle, Zach Grindle, and Walker Grindle.
Family visitations will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, at Lawrence Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Selma Branch of the Montgomery Cancer Center, 1023 Medical Center Parkway, Suite 110, Selma, Al 36701 or Cahaba Hospice, 410 Church Street, Selma, Ala., 36701.
Billy was a long time resident and business owner in Selma. After operating Weaver Safety Service for 33 years, he retired to his beloved ‘river’ in 1994. A lifetime member of the Selma Elks Lodge 167, Billy also recently received his 50-year pin from the Selma Masonic Lodge Number 926 F&AM.
Rosie Jones
Rosie Jones, 86, of Selma, died Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at a local hospital.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, May 19, at Marion City Cemetery with Lee & Rollins Funeral Home directing.
Fad Griffin
Fad Griffin, 99, of Brent, died Sunday, May 16, 2004, at a Bibb County hospital.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Lee & Rollins Funeral Home.
