Georgia L. Howard Burrell

Georgia L. Howard Burrell, 64, of Selma, died on Friday, July 2, 2004 at a local hospital.

Services will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2004 at 1 p.m. at Figtree Baptist Church in Jones, AL with Charles L. Howard and Miller Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Figtree Cemetery.

Survivors include four sons, Alonzo Howard, Norman (Grenean) Howard, Patrick Howard, Jeffrey Burrell; four daughters, Jacquline (Andre) Sigmon, Sherika (Lewis) Giles, Lajunba Waugh, Mykeshia Waugh, four brothers, Columbus (Sherry) Howard, Charles (Ruth) Howard, James (Crystean) Howard, Brady (Julia) Howard, four sisters, Mae Francis (John) Pickett, Sadie (Calvin) McGhee, Lula Walker, Angela Smith; nine grandchildren; two son-in-laws, one daughter-in-law; two brother-in-laws; four sister-in-laws; six nephews; thirteen nieces; special grandchild, Temika Howard and special uncle, Richard Howard.

Ms. Burrell was preceded in death by her mother, Lillie W. Howard; grandchild Kendrick Howard and sister, Shelia Smith.

Pallbearers Autaugaville High School Class of 1957, family and friends.

Julia Felder Manora

Julia Felder Manora, born on March 2, 1914, died on Saturday, July 3, 2004.

Services will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2004 at 12 noon at Shiloh AME Zion Church in Hope Hull with Rev. Bobby Campbell officiating and Phillip & Riley Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in Mountain Hill Cemetery. The body will lie in repose from 11 a.m. until 12 noon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Manora.

Survivors include sister, Margaret Boykin of Birmingham; sister-in-law, Jeanette Felder of Montgomery; son, Joe Edward (Barbara) Monora; daughter, Fannie M. Hendrieth, seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; host of nephews, nieces and friends. She was a member of Queen Henrietta chapter of OES #724 and the daughter of Richard and Carolyn Howard Felder.

George Ludwig Schmidt

George Ludwig Schmidt, 61, died on Sunday, July 4, 2004 at his residence.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Roy Hurst officiating and Usrey Funeral Home directing in Talladega, AL. Burial will be in Lincoln City Cemetery. Mr. Schmidt was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Schmidt and mother, Terese Ahten Schmidt.

Survivors include his sister, Laura Cheloke; brother, Carl Schmidt both of Schmidt’s Mill and numerous cousins here and Germany. Pallbearers will be Ralph Hudgins, Mike Smith, Richard Motes, Mark Andrews and Jerry Blalock. Honorary pallbearers will be Ollis Madden, Ralph Howell and Bill Manderson, friends from Cahaba and the Selma area. Mr. Schmidt was born at Schmidt’s Mill but lived most of his life at Cahaba in Dallas County, moving back to Schmidt Mill in the Spring of 2003. He was known for his kindhearted and generous nature, his willingness always to accept an apology.

Rastus McLendon

Rastus McLendon, 81, of Selma, died on Monday, July 5, 2004 at his residence.

Services will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Edard Eaton officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in New Live Oak Cemetery.

Visitations will be on Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at Lawrence Funeral Home from 10-11 a.m. Survivors include wife, Billie Pearson McLendon; son, William Joseph (Lisa) McLendon; daughters, Susan McLendon (Larry) Jones, Mary Nan (David) Spivey, Ann McLendon Curtis; sisters, Martha Joe Matthews, Clydis D. Heist, Mary Mae McVay; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Lawrence Rogers Jones, Jr., Kirby McLendon Jones, Matthew McLendon Curtis, David Reid Spivey, John Thomas Curtis, Auston Ras McLendon and David Eugene Smedley.

Dorriceil Hatfield Castellow

Dorriceil Hatfield Castellow, 81, of Selma, died on Monday, July 5, 2004 at a local hospital.

Graveside services will be on Thursday, July 8, 2004 at 1 p.m. in Georgetown Cemetery of Georgetown, GA with Rev. Neal Caver officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Visitations will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at Lawrence Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Survivors include daughter, Martha Ann Roberts of Selma; grandchildren, Glenda (Lee) Henman of New Orleans, LA, Betsy (James) Chaisson of Pearl, MS; sister, Deanie Searcy of Dothan; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Honorary pallbearer will be nephews, Bobby, Sonny and Wayne Hatfield; men of Dallas Avenue Baptist Church of Selma and Andy Howe of Selma.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to The American Heart Association.
