Going buggy: Area children participate in Jabberwock 2004

They all went “buggy” at the annual spring production, JABBERWOCK 2004, sponsored by the Selma Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Bugs were everywhere in the Selma Convention Center:
caterpillars and spiders, ladybugs and grasshoppers, butterflies and bees, Miss Muffett on her tuffet – and even a raunchy roach appeared on the scene.
A creation of Lewis Carroll in his “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,” Jabberwock was a mythical character, made of parts of several creatures to make a whole. Each year Jabberwock summoned members of his kingdom to exhibit their talents in a fun-filled night of entertainment.
In 1925 Marion Conover, a sorority member, began the production of the variety show of music, skits and dance to raise funds earmarked for scholarship and public service projects. And in like manner, the Selma Alumnae Chapter reaches out to children.
Sadie M. Moss is president of the local chapter; Pinkie Platt, vice president; Lynne Brown, treasurer, Annie D.B. Robertson, recording secretary, Karen Johnson, corresponding secretary, Linda Ware, financial secretary, Beverly Blackmon, assistant financial secretary, Joyce O’Neal, parliamentarian, Willie Mae Conner, sergeant-at-arms, Mattie Gassaway, chaplain, and Barbara Craig, custodian.
Participating in the 2004 production were: Safari Dixon, Myalexis Nicole Lane, Ayanna Travis, De’Andea T. Minor-Williams, Zahara Thomas, Tikeena Cooper, Justin Murray, Treyton Torrez Neely, Jalik V. Walters and Cameron Walker.
