Too Tuff Entertainment has teamed up with local radio stations for a Labor Day weekend festival of music, arts, and entertainment at Bloch Park.
On Sept. 3, 4, and 5, Too Tuff Entertainment, along with WBFZ 105.3 and WZFG 107.5, will host Unity Fest, an event where families can listen to a multitude of musicians and shop among a wide array of vendors.
Cassandra Moten, event coordinator with Too Tuff Entertainment, said the three-day festival begins at Twelve Stone at 7 p.m. on Sept. 3 with a Search for Stars talent show.
“Anyone who has a talent can participate,” Moten said. “The winner will get signed to a record deal, receive $500 in cash, and receive wardrobes for any performances during a six-month period.”
At Bloch Park the following day, festival goers will be entertained by country and contemporary musicians during the morning and afternoon, followed by a series of Hip Hop and R&B artists later that evening.
“On Sunday, we are going to have the Gospel Power Hour starting at 1 p.m.,” Moten said. “This will be followed by performances from jazz and blues artists.”
Moten said there would also be a play area for children while their parents browse the vender areas or watch a performance.
“This whole idea for a Unity Fest came about because I was listening to the bickering between different candidates and organizations,” said Roosevelt Johnson, president of Too Tuff. “I wanted all of Selma to come together in a family-oriented setting and be as one community.”
Moten said she and the rest of the Too Tuff staff have spent the past three months planning Unity Fest and are looking forward to finally seeing the event come together.
“My staff has worked countless hours on this,” Johnson said. “I am just ecstatic that Unity Fest is almost here. I’ve meet with so many different artists who are gung-ho about coming to Selma. Some of them are only letting us pay for their travel expenses because they just want to be here.”
Ticket prices for the event have not yet been determined, but Johnson says they will be on sale at all Pinebelt Wireless locations, J.T. Network in Selma, and the Sears store in Demopolis.
Organizers of the Unity Fest are also still working to gain more sponsors for the big event.
“Listeners should stay tuned to 105.3 and 107.5 for ticket information and special give-a-ways,” Moten said.
