Today, residents of Ward 3 and Ward 8 will find out who will represent them on the City Council for the next four years.

Both seats went to a runoff, and for Janie Venter, Jim Durry, Jean Martin and Felicia Owens “Dixon” the race will determine how much spare time they’ll have.

Only residents of Wards 3 and 8 will be voting, but the rest of the city will be watching the outcome.

“Only qualified electors registered in those wards will be allowed to vote,” City Clerk Lois Williams said.

Voting will be held at four different locations, according to Williams.

Ward 3 voters will report to Byrd Elementary and the Dallas County Courthouse. Ward 8, to the East End Fire Station and the Carver Community Center.

The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Identification is required. According to the City Clerks office, acceptable identification includes a drivers license, a work I.D. or a utility bill, among others.
