An Orrville man was shot and killed early Saturday morning during an apparent argument with two other men near the corner of Mabry Street and L.L. Anderson Avenue.
At around 3:30 a.m., police were responding to a call one block from where the incident occurred when they received word of shots being fired nearby.
Officers immediately arrived on the scene and discovered the body of Norris Lavoy Dragg, 23, lying face down on the ground near the side of a residence.
The victim suffered from several gun shot wounds in his back.
CARE ambulance was notified and the victim was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Selma Police Chief Robert Green said it appears the victim had been trying to run from the suspects at the time of his death.
After securing the crime scene and speaking with witnesses, detectives were able to locate one of the suspects.
Selma resident Oscar Bernard Murray, 23, was brought to police headquarters for questioning at around 7:30 a.m. Saturday and later charged with murder.
A few hours later, according to police reports, detectives also arrested Murray’s 17-year-old brother at 1217 5th Avenue in Selmont and also charged him in connection to the murder.
Green said investigators are still trying to determine what led to the shooting, but it appears Murray and the victim had been arguing over a woman.
“There is an indication the argument stems from a dispute over a female both (Murray and Dragg) had in common,” Green said.
Murray and his brother are currently being held in the Dallas County Jail under no bond.
Dragg’s death marks the ninth homicide to be committed in Selma this year.
The last murder occurred on May 1 when 19-year-old Terrance Hatcher was shot and killed on Medical Center Parkway near Vaughan Regional Medical Center.
