It took about an hour for Petty Officer Second Class Darrell Brisker to realize he was the victim of a theft.

Brisker, a recruiter with the U.S. Navy, reported $2,130 stolen from his office at the Selma Mall.

According to his superior, Petty Officer First Class Edward Theodoro, Brisker was paying his bills at the desk when the theft happened.

Brisker had the stack of currency on his desk when a middle-aged man entered the office.

“He asked some off the wall question,” Theodoro said.

Brisker answered all the man’s questions and then turned back to his work, later, he noticed the money missing.

Theodoro said they didn’t even think about the man at first, they both assumed Brisker misplaced his money. Later, after a complete search of the office, it dawned on them.

“He did a hoop-dee-doop,” Theodoro said.

Allegedly, while the man leaned over the desk to ask his questions, he palmed the money and pocketed on the way out the door. Neither Theodoro, Brisker or a young volunteer who works in the office, Victor Craig, saw any of it happen.

None of them knew the man’s name.

Theodoro said he was middle-aged, about 34, and bald. He said the black male weighed about 250-275 pounds and wore a throwback, button-up Laker jersey.
