The pouring rain did not seem to stop around 200 doctors, nurses, and hospital and clinic workers from attending a barbecue block party Wednesday at the office of Wiregrass Hospice.
Wiregrass Hospice teamed up with Mid South Home Health Agency to host the party in honor of November being National Hospice Month.
While the rain kept everyone from being outside, no one seemed to notice as they munched on barbecue ribs and chicken on picnic tables inside the Wiregrass Hospice office.
“The purpose of this block party was to educate people about hospice and home health care,” said Wiregrass Community Educator Beth Pearce.
Along with plenty of free food, those who attended the block party also had a chance to win door prizes such as watches and a free massage.
On Nov. 5, Wiregrass Hospice will have an appearance on WSFA TV and serve desserts to local hospital staff.
The organization will also be making a lunch visit to Warren Manor on Nov. 9. The month-long celebration will come to an end on Nov. 23 with a staff appreciation party at the St. James Hotel.
Hospice uses an interdisciplinary team of healthcare professionals and trained volunteers to provide pain-management, symptom control, psychosocial support and spiritual care to patients and their families coping with a life-limiting illness.
