James Arnold Carter
James “Bill” Arnold Carter, 79, of Selma, died Monday, November 22, 2004, at a local hospital.
Graveside services are at 10 a.m. Friday, November 26, at Plantersville Christian Cemetery with the Rev. Allen Yarbrough officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include one son, Laine Carter of Prattville; four daughters, Charlotte (Albert) Blackmon, Susan (Gerald) Hughey, Tammy (Dwayne) Miley of Selma and Pam (David) Burrows of Manlius, NY; five brothers, Tom Carter and Ed Carter of Maplesville, Ernest Carter and Gordon Carter of Plantersville and Clyde Carter of Billingsley; six sisters, Katie Rhodes of Selma, Margie Rhodes and Nancy Capitina of Plantersville, Sybil Ahlberg of Clanton, Shirley Smitherman and Louise Smitherman of Maplesville; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren:
Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, November 25, at Selma Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Cooper Memorial Church or Ocmulgee Baptist Church.
Bertharine G. Furlow
Bertharine G. Furlow, 77, of Selma, died November 19, 2004, at a local hospital.
Services will be held at 12 noon Wednesday, November 24, at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Eddie J. Marshall officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery directed by J. H. Williams & Sons Funeral Home.
Survivors include two daughters, Gloria F. “Nita” (Charles A.) Smith of Selma and Agnes “Maria” Kariuki of Phenix City’ two sons, Charles Hamilton (Doris) Furlow of River Forest, Ill.,and Lawrence Alvin Furlow of Radcliff, Ky.; one brother, Hamilton (Micki) George Sr. of Detriot, Mich.; five grand- children; one great-grandson; and other relatives, friends and neighbors.
Bertharine was born in Wilcox, and was educated in the Wilcox County School System graduating from Camden Academy. She was a member of Green Street Baptist Church for over 50 years, serving on the Senior Ursher Board and with the Matrons. She was also a member of the Optimistic Six Club, the Pokeno Club, the George Washington Carver Center’s Thursday exercise class and the Women’s LIBS Bible Study.
She moved to Montgomery in 1982 and retired after 15 years from the State of Alabama Dept of Revenue.
Pettway Reed
Pettway Reed, 79, of Minter, died Sunday, November 20, 2004, at a local hospital.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later by J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home.
