James Edward Lake, 52, of Detroit, Mich., formerly of Orrville, died Saturday, December 25, 2004.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 8, at New Bethel Baptist Church, Orrville, with the Rev. Curtis Williams officiating and Miller Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include: his wife Deloris Lake; two children, Nancy Lake of Houston Texas and James Lake II of Detroit, Mich.; three sisters: Sis. Geraldine Johnson and Laura Irby of Orrville; one reared sister, Evelyn Westbrook of Inkster, Mich.; four brothers, Bezell (Mattie) Westbrook, Lonnie Lake, Willie Lake, Andrew (Bettie) Lake all of Detroit, Mich.
Jennie Young Pace
Jennie Young Pace, 85, died Wednesday, January 5, 2005, at a local hospital.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 8, at the Chapel at Lawrence Funeral Home. Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Monday January 10, at Valley Creek Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Pace is survived by her son, William S. Pace, Jr. and wife Dee of Fort Worth, Texas; a sister, Mrs. Carroll Henry of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two sisters-in-law, Miriam Pace of Burlington,N.C. and Mrs. Josephine Pace of Dothan; one grandchild, Kellee Welborn and husband Matt of Aledo, Texas; and two great-grandchildren; Mattie and Alyson Welborn of Aleda, TX. and multiple nieces, nephews, and friends.
Family visitation will be Saturday January 8, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Church Street United Methodist Church.
Henry Robbins
Henry Robbins, 88, of Selma, died Friday, December 31, 2004, at a local hospital.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 8, at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church with the Rev. L.L. Ruffin officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include one son, John Henry Robbins of Chicago, Ill; three daughters, Bertha Dower of Chicago, Ill., Annie Mae Jackson of Selma and Addie Louis (Reubin) of Mobile; one brother, Eugene Robbins of Chicago, Ill; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; one son-in-law; one daughter-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Active pallbearers are Calvin Byrd, Melvin Dower, Reubin Louis, Reginald Osborne, Olonda Robbins and Theopolis Robbins.
Joseph E. Peasant
Joseph E. Peasant, died Tuesday, January 4, 2005.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 10, 2005 at Hopewell Baptist Church in Richmond, with Reverend Boykins officiating. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Memorial Garden in Selma, with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include two daughters, JoAnn Daniel of Richmond, and Joyce (Arnold) Brown of Montgomery.; one son, Eddie (Jeanette) Peasant Sr. of Mobile; two sisters, Mable Farris of Montgomery and Annie Brown of Atlanta, Georgia; two brothers, George (Emma) Peasant of Talladega and Clarence (Dorothy) Peasant of Birmingham; seven grandchildren, Ashleigh Brown and Anson Brown of Montgomery, David Daniel of Richmond, Davida Hall of Marietta, Ga., Eddie Peasant Jr. of Brandon, Miss., Juan Peasant and Terrence Peasant of Mobile; seven great-grandchildren, Brooke Hall and Justin Hall of Marietta, Ga., Branton Peasant, Cameron Peasant, Essence Peasant, Jordan Peasant and Logan Peasant all of Mobile; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Estelle Moss Peasant; three brothers, Josie Peasant, David Peasant, and Willis Peasant; and one sister, Patsy Peasant Adams.
Joseph E. Peasant was born on November 9, 1922 to the union of Joseph and Georgia Mills Peasant in Richmond. He was the youngest of their eight children. Joseph attended school at E.M. Brown Training School in Richmond. He received further educational training from Wallace Community College in Selma.
Joseph worked for International Paper for several years. He also owned several businesses around the Dallas County area. In October 1991, Joseph was appointed as chair man of the Dallas County Board of Voter Registration. Joseph was a loving brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the National Voting Rights Museum and Institute, 1012 Water Avenue, Selma, AL 36702.
Jessie C. Crawford
Jessie C. Crawford, 99, of Selma, died Friday, December 31, 2004.
Services will be held at 12 noon Saturday, January 8, at New Sister Springs Baptist Church in Tyler, with the Rev. Paul Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include one son, James Crawford of Portland, Ore.; seven grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Active pallbearers are family and friends.
The body will lie in state at the church on Saturday, from 11 a.m. until services.
Mrs. Crawford was born in Sardis, on Nov. 17, 1905, the eighth child of the late Mitchell and Chloe Collins. She was a lifelong member of New Sister Springs Baptist Church where she served as Mother of the church. She remained faithful until her health failed.
Bessie A. Johnson
Bessie A. Johnson, 71, of Selma, died Saturday, January 1, 2005, at a local hospital.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 8, at New Bethany Church in Sardis, with the Rev. Carl Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Smith Family Cemetery in Orrville, with Miller Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include two sons, Frank (Jennifer) Johnson and Clabon Johnson Jr.; one brother, William Johnson; seven sisters, Eloise Edwards, Lula Johnson, Mattie Bell Johnson, Bertha Sherman, Doris Johnson, Carolyn Johnson and Jackie Johnson; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one daughter-in-law; two brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Jane Johnson, brother, Arthur Ellis.
Active pallbearers are Jeff Barge, James Bethel, Keith Howard, Edwin Wilson and Frederick Henry.

Emmett Tabb, 87, of Selma, died Sunday, January 2, 2005, at his home.
Services will be held at1 p.m. Saturday, January 8, in Marion Jct. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include one daughter, Elizabeth Tabb Smith; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; seven nephews; five nieces; as ad hot of other relatives and friends.
Active pallbearers are Lee E. Walker, Jr., Chris Walker, Simuel Walker, Adrain Cares, James Harrison Jr., Eric Jackson and Donald Richerson.

Ella M. Anderson, 82, of Chicago, Ill., died Monday, January 3, 2005, in Chicago, Ill.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 8, at Town Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Mt. Ararat Cemetery in Tyler, with Miller Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include three sons, Tim Anderson of Chicago, Ill., Percy Anderson Jr. and Jesse (Barbara) Anderson; two daughters, Rosie Lee Anderson and Pauline (the late Charlie) Lawrence; one brother, Phillip Gulley of New Haven, Conn.; three step-sons, Joseph Anderson of Illinois, Willie Anderson of New Jersey and Johnnie Lee Hardy of Chicago, Ill.; 23 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Ms. Anderson raised two of her sister’s children Dan Stallworth of Pennsylvania and Sally Pearl Smelley of Detroit, Mich.
She was preceded in death by children, Phillip Gulley, Bessie Mae Gunn and William Anderson.
