Someone old and someone new led the girls in powder blue as the Lady Saints of Selma High destroyed Robert E. Lee, Tuesday night at home.
Freshman Gabrielle Goudy poured in 14 points and senior Santana Seay added 13 points, six rebounds and five steals as the Saints improved to 14-3 overall and 5-1 in area play.
“Tonight our defense played more aggressive, we swung the ball and everybody stepped up tonight,” Coach Anthony Harris said, “(Erica) Culpepper, (Shemeka) Simpson, (Martina) West and (Kameka) Wilson. We smell that March Madness.”
Simpson had seven points and eight assists and appears to be getting back to her old self, finding open teammates for easy buckets.
With the athletic slasher Seay doing damage, the Lady Generals fell behind early and couldn’t catch up.
Midway through the first quarter, Seay cut to the bucket, was smacked to the floor and still managed to put the ball in the hole.
She added the free throw for an old-fashioned three-point-play.
Later senior point guard Ashley Green, who finished with 11 points and three assists, dropped a dime to Wilson in the post for another three-point play that ended the quarter.
“It’s time we play better team ball and tonight we did just that,” Perkins said. “Our first goal is for the girls and boys to host the Area Tournament.”
Sophomore Erica Lumpkin had eight points and five rebounds.
Culpepper added six points and six rebounds.
Amina Wofford added six points and West had four.
The Lady Saints led after three quarters, 54-27.
