Coach Willie Maxey Jr.’s Selma High Saints had 26 turnovers against West End High of Birmingham Saturday night, but still managed to win 66-55.
John Dailey scored 19 points, Edgar Brown, 14; Robert Childers, 11 points, eight rebounds.
Dailey, Brown and Childers were in control of the first half 30-32. In the third quarter Eric Martineer (10 points, four rebounds) went to work getting loose balls and put the Saints ahead by 11, 51-40, to end the third. Brown scored in the paint with two 15-footers and the Saints went up by 16. West End fought their way back in the game and came within eight. Quinn Pernell (eight points, six rebounds) went to the baseline and scored and Selma went up by 10.
“We’re turning the ball over way too much,” Maxey said. “We’ve got to play more aggressive with the ball.”
Childers in the fourth quarter was too much for the Lions and Saints went on for the win. Selma plays Prattville Tuesday at Carver.
