James Emmett Tolbert
James Emmett Tolbert, 71, died Saturday, February 5, 2005.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 12, at New Center Baptist Church in Selma, with the Rev. Earl Butler officiating. Burial will follow in New Pernell Baptist Church Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Tolbert is survived by his wife, Sarah W. Tolbert of Marion Jct.; three daughters, Deloris of Stone Mountain, Ga., Angela of Dothan and Sundae (Tony) Mobley of Adgar; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Bertha D. King of Selma; one brother, John Tolbert of York; and a wealth of nieces, nephews, true friends and supportive neighbors, lead by Mrs. Mary Perkins.
Family visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. on Friday, at the funeral home.
The body will lie in state at the church on Saturday, from 12 noon to service time.
God did not allow a great deal of suffering. Mr. Tolbert was strong to the end.
The family greatly appreciates the care provided by Wiregrass and Cahaba Hospice, the Cancer Treatment Center of Selma and Priscilla Home Healthcare.
Howard Shelton
Howard Shelton, died Monday, February 7, 2005, at a local hospital.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 12, at Oak Grove Augustine Baptist Church with the Rev. Melvin Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Shelton and Alexander Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Shelton; three sons, Clarence Shelton, Bobby Shelton and Howard Shelton Jr.; two daughters, Cindy Beal and Clementine Shelton; seven brothers, Tommie Shelton, Gerald Shelton, Cleophus Shelton, Edward Shelton, Jimmy Shelton, Bennie Johnson and Samuel “Sugar Man” Shelton; two sisters, Mary D. Shelton and Willie Lee Kendricks; 16 grandchildren; two sons-in-law; three daughters-in-law; five brothers-in-law; six sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mattie and Ad Shelton and son, Wilbur Shelton.
Active pallbearers are Bernard Simpson, Ronnie Watters, Linzy Watters, Richard Sturdivant and Willie Simpson.
Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Shelton, Howard Shelton Jr., Clarence Shelton and Alfred Beal.
Carrie L. Jackson
Carrie L. Jackson, 77, of Selma, died Saturday, February 5, 2005, at a local nursing home.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 12, at Beloved Apostolic Church of God with the Rev. J.D. Fails officiating. Burial will follow in Zion #1 M.P. Church Cemetery with Walker Mortuary directing.
Survivors include seven sons, Eddie (Virginia), Jesse (Janice), Leonard and Alex Davis all of Selma, Robert (Eloise) of Huntsville and William of Las Vegas, Nev., Willie (Pam) of Kansas; two daughters, Joann (Henry) Stevenson of Detroit, Mich., and Katie (John) Rankin; one brother, Willie Whatley of Mobile; mother-in-law, Emma Jackson; 22 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sons-in-law; six daughters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; six sisters-in-law; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Vonciel Davis
Vonciel Davis, 79, of Montgomery, formerly of Selma, died Thursday, February 10, 2005, at a Montgomery Hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2005 at Plantersville Christian Cemetery with Rev. Charles Sullivan officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Davis was retired from the Alabama Health Dept.
She is survived by two brothers, Hoyed (Mary Ellen) Davis of Atlanta, Ga., and Clint (Mary Helen) Davis of Montgomery; one sister, Ella Mae (Jerry) House of Tuscaloosa, AL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family request that there be no flowers.
John Moorer Sr.
John Moorer Sr., 73, of Selma, died Wednesday, February 2, 2005, at a local nursing home.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 12, at Summer Grove M.B. Church with Elder Ceasar Calhoun officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include one son, John Moorer Jr.; five brothers, Willie (Florence), Charles (Velma) of Selma, Jim (Eula) of Pittsfield, Mass., Robert (Helen) of Birmingham and Moses of Camden; sisters, Wilma Jean (Willie) Perryman of Birmingham, Willie James Hrabowski of Arlington, Texas, Lynn (James) Eaton of Selma and JoAnn (Ted) Fenn of Hamden, Conn.; sister-in-law, Julia Mae Green; one grandchild; one great-child; two brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces, nephews; two special friends, Gregory Green of Selma and Dorothy Brown.
Mr. Moorer was preceded in death by two brothers, Lee Andrew Green and Hugh Moorer.
Active pallbearers are nephews.
Rosanna Norfleet
Rosanna “Gulley” Norfleet, 75, of Newbern, died Saturday, February 5, 2005, at a nursing home in Birmingham.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 12, at Reynolds Chapel AME in Newbern with the Rev. H. McGhee officiating. Burial will follow in Norfleet Cemetery in Newbern
Survivors include two sons, Benny Joe Norfleet of Birmingham and Andrew Norfleet of Newbern; eight daughters, Lucy (Lafayette) Billingsley, Sarah (Phillip) Andrews of Alexandria, Va., Willie (Adolph) Shepard of Cleveland, Ohio, Nancy Miller, Elizabetb Crumb, Ethel Smith, Odell (Jessie) Parrish and Mary Speigner of Birmingham; one brother, Fred Ward of Bessemer; 33 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and three sons-in-law.
Active pallbearers will be grandsons.
Colonel William Miller Boggs
Colonel William Miller Boggs died on Friday, January 28, 2005, at a hospital in Virginia. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2005, at 11:00am at Fort Myer Chapel, Fort Myer, Va. Graveside services and interment will follow in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
Colonel Boggs was active with the Boy Scouts, and enjoyed design and construction.
A born again, spirit filled, Christian, he is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy; his son, Ron Boggs of Fairfax Station, Virginia; and his daughters, Cheryl Daniel of Seattle, Washington, and Starr Potts of Ashford, Connecticut; and four grandchildren.

Colonel Boggs was born in Selma, where he lived until he entered Auburn University and earned degrees in electrical and mechanical engineering.
Colonel Boggs served in North Africa and Europe during World War II, marrying his wife, Dorothy, in 1943.
He earned a master’s degree in nuclear physics at UC Berkley, which he used in 1962 when he supervised U.S. underground nuclear testing in Nevada.
His career with the US Army Corps of Engineers took him to Japan, Thailand, Albuquerque NM, Pittsburg PA, and Washington, D.C.. He also taught at the Army War College, in Carlisle Pennsylvania, where he earned a second masters degree in international studies.
Sandra Faye Richardson
Sandra Faye Richardson, 33, of Selma, died Monday, February 7, 2005, at her home.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, February 13, at Selmont Community Baptist Church with Pastor D.L. Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include her parents, Edison Moore Jr. and Elnora R. Moore; two sons, Tashawn Richardson and Lawrence Smiley Jr.; one daughter, Kenesha Richardson; goddaughter, Comisha Green; two brothers, Edison Moore III and Tenyada Antowo Richardson; two sisters, Rosalind Lorraine Richardson and Felisha D. Moore; two nephews; two nieces; grandmother, Marietta Richardson; nine aunts; four uncles; and a host of cousins.
Active pallbearers are relatives and friends.

Marjorie C. Norris, 72, a resident of Montgomery, died Wednesday, February 9, 2005.
Funeral services will be Saturday, February 12, 2005 at 11:00 AM at Leak-Memory Chapel with Reverend Tull Gearreald officiating.
Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery at 2:30 PM with Chaplain Russ Williamson and Dr. Dave Thomas officiating and Leak-Memory Chapel Directing
She is survived by her loving daughter Beverly Norris Vaughn and her husband Kurtis, step children Julius N. Nelson, Jr. and his wife Debbie and Patricia Ann Pierce and her husband Ralph, numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren, brothers and sisters Mildred Halford, Jean Blair, Douglas Chance and Edward Chance, sisters in law Sarah Chance Hood and Lessie Chance Hartsell and many loving nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Julius Nelson Norris, Sr.
Active pallbearers will be Tyler Sasser, Randy Sasser, Donny Chance, Billy Chance, Bobby Chance, Larry Chance, Harold Halford and Floyd Chance.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Chance and Dayton Chance.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Saturday at Leak-Memory.

Mrs. Norris was a member of Eastmont Baptist Church and was a member of the Realtors Association for over 25 years.

Epheran Harden Sr., 85, of Boligee, died Tuesday, February 8, 2005, at a hospital in Eutaw.
