A convicted sex offender was arrested Monday afternoon after he was caught allegedly looking into the window of a residence in the 2000 block of Minter Avenue.
Selma Police charged Walter Rodney Johnson, 27, with third-degree criminal trespass after he was seen peering into the home shortly after 4 p.m., according to Public Information Officer Lt. David Evans.
Evans said that after police did a background check on Johnson, they discovered he was on probation for committing a sex offense in Dallas County.
In 1999, Johnson was found guilty of sex abuse first-degree and burglary second-degree after forcing his way into a home in Old Town.
“He attacked and sexually assaulted a woman who was living there at the time,” Evans said.
Evans said Johnson’s probation officer was notified of the arrest and a request has been made that the suspect be held in the Dallas County Jail until police can further look into the matter.
