Grist YMCA team takes title

The Grist YMCA 10-year-old All-Stars went on the road to Tuscaloosa and bested a pair of home teams to win the Tuscaloosa Central YMCA tournament.
Michael Rowe’s team first beat the Tuscaloosa Central YMCA III team 42- 21 to advance to the title game.
The Grist team jumped out to a 19-9 halftime lead and never looked back.
George Michael Rowe led with 11 points- including five in the first quarter. Mario Oliver added 10 and Darion Alexander chipped in nine.
Anfernee Simpson was good for six while Anton Summers bucketed four points.
Jeremy Blake scored two points.
Grist added 14 points in the third quarter to fend off any chance for a Tuscaloosa rally.
In the title game, Grist faced Tuscaloosa Central YMCA I and faced a tougher challenge on the offensive end.
Still, Selma won the title, 31-26.
The teams battled to a 6-6 tie at the end of a quarter, but Alexander was great in the second quarter.
He scored eight of his game-high 17 to lead Grist to a 16-13 lead.
After getting blanked in the first half, Rowe got loose for six points in the second half while Alexander added seven.
Simpson scored six for Selma and Oliver added a deuce to round out the scoring.
Selma led 24-20 after three quarters of play and outscored Tuscaloosa 7-6 in the final stanza to ensure the title.
