Before taking the weekend off for a little spring break, the Dallas County baseball team took care of some unfinished business Wednesday on the road.
After losing to Maplesville in Plantersville, the Hornets turned the tables on the Red Devils and downed the home team, 7-4.
“I’m really proud of all of them,” coach Billy Jackson said. “We’ve had two days back-to-back where the pitchers have come out and given us a chance to win.”
Cody Massey pitched the entire seven-inning game to pick up the win.
He gave up four runs on five hits.
He struck out six, walked one and hit two.
Shane Moreland got things going early in the first with a one-out double.
James Bennett moved the runner over with a grounder to short and Tyler Hollis picked up the RBI with a double.
It was more of the same in the second as Dallas County manufactured another run.
Matthew Ross led off with a single then stole second. Randal Greene walked and Massey had an RBI double.
In the third, Bennett led off with a double that was misplayed in the sun. Jacob Paxton was in the hole and came up with an RBI single.
Dallas County broke things open in the fifth.
Hollis singled and Alan Anthony pinch ran and stole second with one down. Ross walked and Anthony moved up putting runners on the corners.
Ross stole second and Greene doubled them both home.
In the seventh, Greene led off with a walk, Kenyatta McDonald had a single and moved Greene to third. Paxton singled and got Greene home while McDonald moved up. A Moreland sac fly gave the final run of the game.
“It was an Excellent effort,” Jackson said. “Kenyatta McDonald he’s kind of spot played for us. He really came through, he’s got a great attitude, just a super kid. He stepped up today and did a fantastic job.”
With the win, Dallas County improves to 6-6-1. They play Monday against Isabella at home.
