Trailing 3-2 and facing the end of their season, the Morgan Academy Senators rallied in the top of the seventh inning.
Josh McAteer stepped to the plate and ripped an infield single. Blake South blasted a double to left that scored McAteer from first base. One batter later, Clint Maroney lined a single, scoring South from second and pushed the Sens up 4-3.
That win split the Tuesday afternoon series with Mobile Christian and forced a game three.
The Senators took the trip back down I-65 on Wednesday with a goal of winning.
That’s just what they did.
Morgan jumped out to a 1-0 lead while
Zach Huey caged the Leopards for a majority of the game.
The Leopards attempted to mount an offense late in the game, but a pitching change squelched any momentum the home team could have mustered.
After giving up a run, bringing the tally to 2-1 MA, Andress brought in Reid Tolar to finish the game.
The game, described by Andress as a pitching dual was the fourth meeting between the two teams. The first time they met during the regular season, the Senators won 9-2. The final in today’s game was a surprise to Andress.
The win advanced the Senators to the Final Four Tournament held at Selma’s Bloch Park beginning May 10 and running through the 14.
The Class AAA state title will be decided on the first two days of the tournament with Morgan having a possible match-up with the AISA’s No. 1, Glenwood School.
Bessemer will take on Faith in the other bracket.
