Four 20-year-old Selma men were arrested and charged with first-degree rape Saturday.
The men – Jarvis Wormley, Demario Benjamin, Sheldrick Effinger and Donta Allen – are accused of raping an 18-year-old Selma resident around 1:30 a.m. in the area of Bloch Park and Dallas Avenue, according to police reports.
Reports indicate that suspects driving a green sport utility vehicle attacked the victim early Saturday morning.
The report didn’t indicate whether the suspect was injured or not.
The victim was taken to the hospital by her mother, where she was treated.
Police reports show that the suspects were all “acquaintances” of the victim.
All four suspects were arrested at around 9 a.m. Saturday morning.
Officials at the Dallas County Jail reported that each of the suspects was assigned a $20,000 bond. All the suspects were released on bond shortly after. The last suspect was freed at about 2 p.m., according to the jail officials.
Police officials reported that the case was still under investigation on Sunday.
The bond could be increased at the first call hearing for the case, according to the district attorney’s office. Assistant district attorney Shannon Lynch said the office is concerned.
“We take sex crimes very seriously,” Lynch said. “The DA’s office will do anything within its power to obtain justice.”
