Marion Military Institute and Sumter Academy squared off Friday night in MMI’s home opener.
The visitors proved to be the better team, taking an 18-14 victory.
MMI chose to receive the ball, but Sumter surprised MMI with an onside kick. The Eagles recovered and took over at the 49-yard line.
They ended their first drive with a
4-yard rushing touchdown run by Matt Bouler, making the score 6-0.
The Tigers then returned the favor by returning a kickoff for a touchdown, tying the score at 6-6.
In the second-half, MMI’s quarterback, Andrew Alexander threw a 55-yard touchdown pass to Jovaris Smith making the tally 14-6 with the two-point conversion.
In the fourth quarter, quarterback Hunter Spidle threw a touchdown pass on fourth down. The Tigers fell short of the victory, losing 18-14 to Sumter Academy.
MMI will be back in action Friday, on the road against Cornerstone.
