Their streak was bound to end sooner or later. Talking to people before the season started, the prediction of sooner would have been the standard.
Someone forgot to tell that to the Morgan Academy Lady Senators volleyball team who finished the season as the No. 3 team in the Alabama Independent School Association’s Class AA.
The Lady Senators finished the regular season with a 14-match win streak and then advanced from the regional tournament into the AISA’s Final Four Tournament at Faulkner University.
In the first round, the Faith Academy Lady Rams sent Morgan to the Loser’s bracket to face the loser of Cottage Hill and Kingwood.
In the elimination round, the Lady Senators faced a team they were all too familiar with. The Kingwood Christian Lady Lions. Morgan and Kingwood had met twice in match-play with the Lady Lions posting both victories.
After game one, it appeared that they were going to continue their dominance over the Lady Senators. Things changed though. The Lady Senators won the second game to force a game three.
Then in the third and final game, the Lady Senators jumped on the Lady Lions and never let up, winning 15-10 to advance to the elimination final against Cottage Hill.
The Lady Senators season ended in two games thanks to the Lady Warriors of Cottage Hill.
Overall, the Morgan Academy volleyball tea finished with a record of 17-4.
