HUNTSVILLE – The Alabama All-Star Sports Week continued Thursday at the University of Alabama in Huntsville with the North-South girls’ basketball game.
The North beat the South 101-65, winning its seventh consecutive game.
Coach Anthony Harris of Selma High took along his scoring guard/forward Erica Lumpkin.
Lumpkin scored six points in the game.
In three years, Lumpkin has led Selma to a 79-21 overall record – including a mark of 31-1 at home – and three straight regional tournaments in Troy.
As a true freshman, Lumpkin led Selma to the Final Four in Birmingham, the first in the school’s history.
Kayla Melson of Sidney Lanier was voted the South team MVP, scoring 18 points with seven rebounds, three steals and three assists.
Melson signed with the University of Mississippi last week.
“The South team played well,” said Tim Miller, coach of the 6A state champions Jeff Davis Volunteers.
Courtney Ward (Jeff Davis) scored nine points for the South team. Whitney Rupert (Carver) scored six, and Cassie Moore (Jeff Davis) had five points, five rebounds and five blocks.
