A routine traffic stop Thursday morning on U.S. Highway 80 East yielded two arrests, and police confiscated 47 bags of marijuana and a handgun.
Willie Edward Moss, 29, of 1305 Atlee St., and Rickey Lee Shanks, 31, of 2708 Eisenhower St., were taken into custody after police discovered 47 individual bags of marijuana.
Police said Shanks, the driver of the 1980 Oldsmoble, admitted the marijuana was his. He was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and jailed on $40,000 bond. Moss was charged with carrying a concealed weapon without a permit. He was held on $500 bond.
Both men had alias warrants. Shanks had an outstanding warrant for theft of property. Moss had an outstanding warrant for a previous DUI.
Selma Police Chief Jimmy Martin said the arrests were not connected to the recent St. Phillips Street arrests.
