Desa M. Wells
Desa M. Wells, age 47, a resident of Houston, Texas and a native of Selma, Alabama died on February 15, 2007 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center of Selma, Alabama.
Desa was a 1977 graduate of Southside High School.
Services are scheduled for February 24, 2007 at 11:00 am at the Mt. Olive #1 Baptist Church, Sardis, Alabama with Pastor A. L. Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Directed by Lewis Brothers Funeral Home.
Survivors include a loving and devoted Mother, Desaree Wells of Sardis, AL; a loving daughter, April Wells and one beloved grandson, Mahlon Keith Phillips III, both of Houston, Texas; one brother, James (Viola) Wells, Sr.; four sisters, Massie (Russell) Hardy, Rosa Richardson, Julia (Sam) Irby of Selma, Alabama and Gracie Wells of Huntsville, Alabama; seven nephews, Russell (Monica) Hardy, Jr., Curtis (Sabrina) Underwood, Frederick (Selena) Hardy, Sr., Derrick Underwood, Marcus Underwood, Destrian Wells and James Wells, Jr.; three nieces, LaShonda (Maurice) Campbell, Sherita Wells, and Nailah Baker; two Aunts, Angeline James of Atlanta, Georgia and Texanna (William) Carter of Mobile, Alabama; and host of great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
James Wells, Curtis Underwood, Frank Carter, Marcus Underwood, Destrain Wells and Willie Bonner, Jr. will serve as Pallbearers.
Mrs. Alice O. Threatt
Mrs. Alice O. Threatt, age 59, of Faunsdale, Alabama passed February 20m 2007 at D.C.H. Regional Medical Center, Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2007 at 1:00 PM at the Hunter’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Faunsdale, Alabama. Rev. John Kennard will officiate.
Interment will follow in First Baptist Cemetery, Faunsdale, Alabama.
The remains will repose at the church on Saturday beginning at 12:00 noon.

Ethel ‘Nett’ Smiley
Ethel “Nett” Smiley, 80, of Sardis, AL passed February 18, 2007 at her home.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 24, 2007 at Good Hope Baptist Church with Pastor John Ward officiating.
Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with J.H. Williams & Sons Funeral Home directing.
She is survived by six children, Louis (Dwaner), Michael (Dorothy), Ronald (Wendy), Marva, Frederick and Donald (Sandy); fifteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren and five siblings.
Mr. Allen Leverette, Sr.
Mr. Allen Leverette, Sr., age 53, of Perry County died on February 16, 2007 at his home in Marion.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2007 at 12:00 PM at Marion Baptist Academy with Rev. Carlton Phillips officiating.
Burial will follow in Daniel Cemetery with Miller Funeral Service directing.
Survivors include: spouse, Jeanette Leverette; three sons, Allen Leverette, Jr., Tyrone Leverette and Reginald Leverette; five brothers, Jonah, Arthur, Willie, Robert, and Richard Leverette; five sisters, Willietta Roberson, Louise Moore, Florence Parker, Linda Hogue, and Mary Leverette; six grandchildren, two daughters-in-laws, seven brothers-in-laws, nine sisters-in-laws.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Bessie Leverette.
His nephews will serve as Pallbearers.

Mr. Eric Craig, age 33, of Selma, AL died on February 14, 2007 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2007 at 1:00 PM at Miller’s Chapel with Rev. Michael Thompson officiating.
Burial will follow in Dr. Henry’s Cemetery with Miller Funeral Service directing.
Survivors include: father, Fred Lewis, Sr.; one son, Javarius Marshall; one half-brother, Fred Lewis, Jr.; one half-sister, Rochelle Lewis; aunt, Rebecca Craig; uncles, Willie James Craig and James C. Craig; dedicated cousins, Angela Craig, Lillie Mae Craig and Hayward Craig and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sallie Mae Craig.
Family and Friends will serve as Pallbearers.
George William Walter
George William Walter, age 61, of Selma, AL died on February 19, 2007 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2007 at 2:00 PM at Green Liberty Baptist with Rev. C. L. Thompson officiating.
Burial will follow in Green Liberty Cemetery with Miller Funeral Service directing.
Survivors include: two daughters, Carolyn Walter-Salaam (fianc Reginald) of Marion, AL and Shirley Oliver-McKinley (Deuteronomy) of Selma, AL; four brothers, Elner Walter of Mobile, AL and David (Barbara) Walter of Selma, AL; four sisters, Bertha (Raymond) Gray of Marion, AL, Shirley (Roosevelt) John of Hampton, VA, Evangelist Addie (Charleston) Holt of Quincy, FL and Clara (Gregory) Wright of Marion, AL; seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, George William Walter, Jr.

‘Ham’ Lowery
Lemon Aubrey “Ham” Lowery, age 83, of Selma died Thursday February 22, 2007 in a local hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 Saturday February 24, 2007 at New Live Oak Cemetery directed by Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home.
Mr. Lowery is survived by his wife, Novie Lowery of Selma, children, Debbie (Wayne) Middlebrooks of Selma, Richard (Carmelita) Watkins of Selma, son-in-law, “Scooter” Haugen of Selma, grandchildren, Eric (Amy) Haugen of Selma, Amy Haugen (Jimmy) Stucky of Georgia, and Kerri (Chet) Chappelle of Selma, 5 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Alice Haugen and grandson, Drew Haugen.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday February 23, 2007 at Lawrence Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to one’s favorite charity.

Marion T. Towns, 56, of Montgomery, formerly of Pleasant Hill, AL passed February 15, 2007 at a Montgomery hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, February 24, 2007 at Good Hope Baptist Church with Rev. J. R. Thicklin officiating. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with J.H. Williams & Sons Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include: a loving wife, Sharon M. Towns of Montgomery; a son, Jeremy; a daughter, Kelsey both of Montgomery; and daughter, Laquisha of Westland, MI. He also leaves three sisters and six brothers to mourn his passing.
Mrs. Mattie Q. Hill
Ms. Mattie Q. Hill, age 84, of Selma, AL died on February 14, 2007 at Lighthouse Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Gaines Chapel AME with Rev. Dave Grant officiating. Burial will follow in Little Zion Cemetery with Miller Funeral Service directing.
Survivors include: three sons, Marshall Davis, Lester Doss and Arthur Hill; one daughter, Lula Hardy (James); one sister, Catherine Doss; ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Mr. Michael Walker
Mr. Michael Walker, age 18, of Selma, Alabama died on February 17, 2007.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2007 at 1:00 PM at Abundant Life with Pastor Etta Weaver officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Church Cemetery, Gordonville, AL with Miller Funeral Service directing.
Survivors include: mother, Rosie Walker; grandmother, Cora Walker and Josephine Sanders; one brother, three sisters and a host of other relatives and friends.
Sandra Marie Pitre Garetino
Sandra Marie Pitre Garetino, age 55, of Selma, AL and originally from Westwego, LA went home to see Jesus, Thursday, February 22, 2007.
She is survived by her mother, Evelyn Hotard; her children, Michael Garetino, Jr., Genea Martin Garetino, adopted daughter, Linda Marie Garetino, birth son, Lester Emile Hotard adopted by her mother, Evelyn Hotard; one granddaughter, Jessica Marie Hotard; one brother, Honore Muntz; three half brothers, Allen Pitre, Wayne Paul Pitre and Jerrod Pitre; two sisters, Deborah Ann Pipkins and Joyce Arnold; two half-sisters, Rita Pitre and Adalene Pitre.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Emma Mary Pitre; her dad, Allen Joseph Pitre and two step-dads, Emile John Hotard and Dean Warren Weitzel.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 24, 2007 at 6-7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 7:30 p.m. with Rev. Scott Wright officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing.

Miss Viola Benison
Miss Viola Benison, age 51, of Forkland Alabama passed February 18, 2007 at her residence in Boligee, Alabama.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2007 at 1:00 PM at the Lloyd Chapel Baptist Church, Forkland, Alabama. Rev. Clayborn May will officiate. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
The remains will repose at the church on Saturday beginning at 12:00 noon.
