Betty Faye Barton
Betty Fay Barton died at 9:00 a.m. on March 28, 2007 in Decatur, Alabama.
She will be buried at Live Oak Cemetery in a graveside service on Sunday, April 1, 2007 at 2:00 p.m.
Miss Barton was born in Selma, Alabama on Aug. 26,1925, the daughter of Regina and Solomon Barton.
Except for residing a few years in both New York City and Los Angeles, Calif., and the last few months in Decatur, Ala., she spent the greatest part of her life in Selma where she worked at Craig Field and Dallas County Welfare Department.
She was the loving sister of Doris Duke of Decatur, Ala., Evelyn Weisfield of New York City, and Albert Barton and his wife Annette Harrison of St. Louis, Missouri.
Miss Barton was the beloved aunt of David and Karen Duke, Susan and Marty Chenault, Jeanne and Gary Payne, Emily and Walter Payton of Decatur, Ala., (all who tenderly cared for her during her recent move to that city.)
She was also the aunt of Jason Barton, Horatio Weisfield, Caitlin Barton Landfield and her husband Matthew all of New York City.
She is the great aunt of Audrey and Andrew Laird and young Andrew, Dr. Ashley Duke, Sarah Catherine Chenault, Adam and Blake Payne.
She is also survived by her cousins Joe Henry Barton and wife Joan, Melvin Klotzman and wife Mary Lou and David Barton and wife Lyn.
She also leaves behind a group of devoted friends who enjoyed her kindness, wit and good conversation.
Miss Barton was an avid gardener.
She also published a children’s book, Jeannie, which has been read to a generation of elementary children in Decatur, sometimes by Miss Barton, herself.
She was a member of Temple Mishkan Israel.

John A. Moore
John A. Moore, age 81, of Bessemer, Alabama, formerly of Selma, Alabama, passed on March 24, 2007 at UAB West Hospital in Bessemer, Alabama.
He was the son of the late Amos and Luella Darden Moore and brother of Martha O. Moore of Selma, Alabama.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 31, 2007 at 12:00 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, Fifth Avenue North in Bessemer, Ala.
Interment will be at Oakdale Cemetery with R. L. Lumzy Funeral Services directing.
George Lee Edwards
George Lee Edwards, age 58, resident of Selma, Ala., passed away March 25, 2007 at his residence.
Funeral Services are March 31, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Helping Hand Bible Ministries Church officiated by Pastor Ralph Edwards Sr.
Burial will be at Mt. Olive #2 Cemetery directed by Miller Funeral Services.
Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. Edwards.
He is survived by four daughters, Felicia (Delundra) Garner, Tynua (Carlos) Crenshaw, Jennifer (Henry) Crawford, all of Selma, and Cassandra Stallworth of Atlanta, Ga., two brothers, Willie (Brenda) Edwards, and Johnny Lee Edwards, one sister, Ebbie Hardy (Neal), nine grandchildren, one great grandchild, three sons-in-law, nine brothers-in-law, and two sisters-in-law.
Marvin Harris
Marvin Harris, age 93, resident of Plantersville, Ala., passed away March 25, 2007 at his residence.
Funeral Services are March 31, 2007 at 1 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Pastor James Dixon, Jr.
Burial will be in Little Zion Cemetery directed by Miller Funeral Services.
Survivors include his wife, Odessa Harris, three sons, Marvin Harris, Jr., William (Sharon) Harris and Michael Harris, five daughters, Patricia (Plese) Tagger, Willie Mae, Bernice and Susie Harris and Charlene (Eldred) Fuller.
Mr. Harris is also survived by one brother, William Sheppard, one sister, Johnnie Mae MaGandy, 29 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, one son-in-law, one daughter-in-law, one brother-in-law and a host of other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Mr. Harris’s grandsons.
Michael A. Brantley
Michael A. Brantley, age 28, resident of Ohio, formerly of Selma, Ala., passed away March 27, 2007 at University Hospital, Ohio.
Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date by Miller Funeral Service.
Arthur Lee Peterson Jr.
Arthur Lee Peterson, Jr., age 50, a native of Whitehall, Ala., died on Sunday, March 25, 2007.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 31, 2007 at 12:00 p.m. at Unity Baptist Church with Pastor Albert Whiting officiating.
Interment will be held in Churchyard Cemetery with Bro. James Hargrove.
Bell Funeral Home will be directing.
He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife, Audrey

Peterson; a daughter, Janelle Peterson; a son, Arthur Lamont Peterson; parents, Arthur, Sr. and Pauline Peterson; a mother-in-law, Joyce Gable; eight sisters, Dorothy (Charles) Behea, Arthurene (Albert) White, Alma (Tony) Fuller, Cathat Peterson, Barbara Carlton, Teresa (Carl) Evans, Alfreda (Jesse) West, and Ronda (Richard) Murray.
One brother, Earnest (Mary) Peterson; three sisters-in-law, Yvonne Gable, Marva Gable, and Lisa Jones; one brother-in-law, Henry (Tonjai) Gable, eight aunts, seven uncles, one great aunt and a host of devoted family members and friends.
Hugh Shannon
Hugh Shannon, age 88, resident of Selma, Ala., passed away March 25, 2007 at Vaughan Regional Hospital.
Funeral Services are Saturday, March 31, 2007 at noon at Shiloh Baptist Church with Rev. S. Tullis officiating.
Burial will be at Sardis Church Cemetery with Miller Funeral Service directing.
Mr. Shannon is survived by one son, Hugh Shannon, Jr. and one daughter, Lelia White, two grandchildred and five great grandchildren.
He is also survived by cousins; Mach (Cynthia) Shannon, Jr. and Loretta Shannon.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
George Washington
George Washington “Bo,” age 45, resident of Selma, Ala., passed away March 22, 2007, at a local hospital.
Funeral Services are Saturday, March 31, 2007 at Second Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. officiated by Rev. Darryl Moore.
Burial to follow in Fairlawn Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.
He was preceded in death by his parents James and Willie Lee Washington.
Mr. Washington is survived by six brothers, Cedric Murry, Culver (Lucille) Murry, Gregory Murry, Tommie Murry, Eddie (Coral) Murry and Christopher Murry, nine sisters, Bernice Blythe, Mattie (Earnest) Terry, Diane (Alfred) Hall, Willie Lee (Jimmy) Washington, Brenda (Willie) McWilliams, Elizabeth Murry, Mattie (Jonathan) Grevon, Rose Allen, Wanda Oliver, four brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, 40 nephews, 50 nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.

Annie Louise Tatum, age 67, a native of Letohatchee (Calhoune Community) Ala., died on Friday, March 23, 2007.
Funeral Serices will be held Saturday, March 31, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Big Union Christian Church with Pastor Timothy Silmon officiating.
Interment will be held in Churchyard Cemetery with Bell Funeral Home directing.

Leonard Evans, age 87, of Demopolis, Alabama, passed March 21, 2007 at Woodhaven Manor Nursing Home, Demopolis, Alabama.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 31, 2007 at 12:00 noon at the Greater New Hope Baptist Church, Demopolis, Alabama.
The Rev. Honoree Lockett will officiate.
Interment will follow in Memorial Cemetery, Demopolis, Alabama.

Rosia Lucinda Burrell, age 73, resident of Selma, Ala., died March 24, 2007 at Jackson Hospital.
Services are scheduled for Saturday, March 31, 2007 at 12:00 p.m. at Boiling Spring Baptist Church. Rev. Lathan Burrell will officiate. Burial will be in the Bethel AME Church Cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Melvin James Burrell; two brothers, Arthur Burrell, Sr. and Walter Burrell; five sisters, Inella Jackson, Eva Alexander, Lillian Mayfield, Amanda Lucy and Ardrilla McCrear; three grandchildren and one daughter-in-law.
