To the Editor:

Well, it’s that time of year again. Once again, I am asking for your help.

Tracye Howe-Murphy will be making her journey to Washington, D.C., on May 14 as an advocate for the ALS Association (Alabama Chapter).

This year, Tracye has organized and is the team leader for a Walk for ALS to be held in Tuscaloosa on Saturday, May 5 at the University of Alabama on the quad.

Registration for the walk will be at 9 a.m. and the Walk will begin at 10 a.m. You may walk as far as you like or just sign up as a “virtual walker” and you do not have to walk at all. Just try to be there to support the team.

The name of Tracye’s team is “Andy’s Army,” a befitting name for the valiant fighter he was before losing his battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

There is no fee to join the walk team. However, all donations and contributions are accepted and deeply appreciated. To join the walk or to donate, please contact:

Tracye Howe-Murphy, 1904 Highland Ave., Selma, AL 36701, Phone: 875-1499, or

Dorothye Jackson, 168 County Road 882, Selma, AL 36701, Phone: 875-8974

Make all checks payable to: ALS Association (Alabama Chapter) and mail to one of the above addresses.

Andy’s Army has a goal set at $2,000. Please help us to meet this goal and go over it, if possible, and let us have a good Walk to draw awareness to the need for more research into the cause, treatment and cure for the devastating Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS).

Once again, let me thank you in advance for your support, your prayers, your donations and your thoughts in our endeavor to “Strike Out ALS.”

May God continue to bless each and every one of you and keep you well and safe, and God bless the city of Selma and our nation.
