Play area an asset for Selmont

Thanks to the efforts of the Dallas County Commission, children in the Selmont area near Jim Minor Garden Homes now have a new playground.
An official opening was held Saturday to welcome kids to the playground, and food, music and other activities were all part of the celebration.
Residents of the area agreed that children needed somewhere safe to play. They also said it was a nice addition to the community.
County Commissioner Connell Towns worked to get the playground built, saying it took six months to get the project completed.
Funding was a joint effort between the county commission and individual investors.
The area is fenced in and will have round-the clock security. The park will be open to the public daily from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
We have several parks in Selma and in Dallas County. Some need upgrades or maintenance, but all can be assets to the area.
City and county officials, as well as the residents, must be diligent in making sure these areas remain clean and safe playgrounds for our children.
Thanks to Towns, the Dallas County Commission and others who made the playground in Selmont a reality.
