Staff Report
Selma firefighters were called to The Paradise Club at 1212 Alabama Avenue after 11 p.m. Sunday night to a structure fire.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation, but according to fire reports it apparently started in the DJ booth, next to the stage. Jebb Harrison, state fire marshal, has been asked to investigate the cause of the fire.
Under renovations, the club was scheduled to open this week, according to managers Elaine Martin and Atkin Jemison. It sustained smoke and water damage throughout.
Three fire engines responded to the call, since the 1200 block of Alabama Avenue is all connected. A fire in the middle of the block could have easily spread in either direction, firefighters said.
