Charlotte Carlton
Cunningham
Charlotte Carlton Cunningham, age 72, of Birmingham, formerly of Selma, died Friday April 3, 2008, at a nursing home in Birmingham, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim Cunningham.
Survivors include her daughters, Eleanor Gantt of Birmingham, Alabama, Adelle (Robert) Johnston of Palmer, Alaska, a son, Doug Cunningham of Selma, Alabama, grandchildren, Carter, Benson, Sarah Drew, Ann, Eleanor, and Peyton.
Mrs. Cunningham was a member of First Presbyterian.
Funeral services will be Tuesday April 8, 2008 at 2:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Ronald Stone officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow at Enon Cemetery in Pine Hill, AL.
Infant Girl Moore
Infant Girl Moore, of Selma, AL died April 4, 2008 at The Vaughan Regional Hospital. Final arrangements will be announced at a later date by Miller Funeral Services, Inc.
Jimmy (J.M.) Bell
Jimmy (J.M.) Bell, 82, of Selma, AL died Saturday, March 29, 2008 at his home. Services are scheduled for 12:00, Saturday, April 5 with the Rev. Frankie Hutchins officiating. Burial will follow in Grove Hill A.M.E. under the direction of Lewis Brothers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Katie Williams and oldest son, Charles Williams. He leaves to cherish his loving memory eight daughters: Gwendolyn (Darius) Bettis, Catherine (Bruce) Dozier, Bessie (Matthew) Mims all of Selma, Alabama; Paula Harrison, Lula (Jessie) King of Hyattsville, Maryland; Anne (Sonny) Mason of Washington, D.C.; Christine (Calvin) Stanberry of Atlanta, GA; Sylvery Richardson of Boston, MA; one son, Richard (Karen) Bell of Selma, AL; a devoted niece, Carolyn (Ben) Jones; twenty-eight (28) grandchildren; twenty-one (21) great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He will be greatly missed.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Johnny Sullivan
Johnny Sullivan, 82, a resident of Selma, passed April 4, 2008 at a local hospital. Final arrangements will be announced at a later date by J. H. Williams & Sons Funeral Home, Inc.
Ms. Lucille Bryant
Ms. Lucille Bryant, 92, of Demopolis, AL passed March 28, 2008 in Demopolis. Services are scheduled for 2:00pm, Sunday, April 6, 2008 at Christian Chapel Baptist Church, Demopolis, AL. Burial will follow in Interment Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Larkin & Scott Funeral Directors.
Ellen P. Carson
Ellen P. Carson, 97, a resident of Selma, passed April 1, 2008 at her home. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, Apr. 7, 2008 at 12 noon from West Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. A. A. Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with J. H. Williams & Sons Funeral Home, Inc. directing.
Mrs. Carson was a long time member of The West Trinity Baptist Church where she served faithfully over 70 years until her health began to fail. She was an active member of the Deaconess Board, Missionary Society and Nurses Guild. She was loved by everyone who knew her.
Ellen was the devoted wife of the late Tom Carson, Sr. and mother of Mary L. Carson, Alfonso Thomas, Frank Thomas, Jr. and Tom Carson, Jr., all whom preceded her in death.
She is survived by two loving daughters, Dorothy J. Vann and Eula M. Rodgers both of Selma; 4 grandchildren, Karen (James) Moore of Savannah, GA, Jennifer Vann, Selma, Ryan (Maiya) Vann of Calera, AL, and Christopher McCotter of New Bern, NC; 3 great-grandchildren, Christian D.
Jennings of Savannah, GA, Brooke Cere Vann of Calera, AL and DeYondre Murphy of Greensboro, NC plus a host of nieces and cousins and one special family friend Barbara Jones of Selma.
The family will receive friends on Sunday Apr. 6, 2008 at the Chapel of J. H. Williams & Sons Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. The body will lie in state at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of the services.
Marjorie Moss Anderson
Marjorie Moss Anderson of Selma died Friday, April 4 at Park Place Nursing Home.
A graveside service will be held at New Live Oak Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 6 with the Reverend Joseph S. Knight officiating. Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include Mrs. Anderson&8217;s son, Dr. Robert Edward Anderson and his wife, Lydia; her grandchildren, Robert Edward Anderson, Jr. of Puerto Rico and Catherine Anderson Henry of Selma; and her great-grandchildren, Natalie, Frances, and William Henry of Selma. She is also survived by her brother, Dr. Philip Ball Moss of Selma and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her husband, George Edward Anderson, her brother, Dr. George West Moss of Natchez, Mississippi, and her sisters, Mrs. James Ernest Tidwell (Ruth) of Jasper, and Mrs. John Hooper Holmes (Helen) of Selma. She is also survived by a very close friend, Mrs. Paul McGee James (Monty) of Selma.
Mrs. Anderson was born on November 12, 1910, in Montgomery, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Philip Ball Moss. Following public school education and graduation from Alabama College in Montevallo, Mrs. Anderson taught at Wilcox County High School in Camden until her marriage to George Edward Anderson in 1934.
With their son, Bob, the family enjoyed active participation in the First Presbyterian Church, the Selma YMCA, the Selma Country Club, and Boy and Girl Scouts. Favorite activities of the family included ball games, bridge, travel, fun at the beach, Pandora Club and work in organizations like Magna Carta Dames, and Federated Womens Clubs.
Marjorie&8217;s other activities included drawing and painting, editing her high school yearbook, serving as president of her class her junior year, and was a member of the National Honor Society. She worked four years as executive secretary of the Dallas County Red Cross and nine years as the executive secretary of the United Way.
The family requests no flowers. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or to a favorite charity.
George &8220;Harvey&8221;
Edwards
George &8220;Harvey&8221; Edwards, age 93, passed away Friday, April 4, 2008.
Preceding Harvey in death are his wife Ruth Richey Edwards; daughter, Joann Seitz; one brother; several sisters; sons in law Dave Davidson and Ray Seitz.
Surviving Harvey are his son Ronnie (Angela) Edwards; daughter, Barbara Davidson; Grandchildren, Jennifer (Phillip) Hilley, Amy Edwards, Kevin Davidson, Bobby (Susan) Seitz and Billy (Judy) Seitz; great grandsons, Taylor Seitz and William Seitz; sister in law Kathleen Morris; niece, Mildred (Allen) Duncan and
numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, April 7, 2008 at 12:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. in the Selma Funeral Home chapel with Rev. George K. Jones, Sr. officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing. Interment will follow in New Live Oak cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Robbie King, Phillip Hilley, Larry Hensley, Jack Frost, Gary Suther, and Neil Clingan. Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Stone, Allen Dunkin, John Britton and the members of James Bearden&8217;s Sunday school class.
