Lady Hornets stay hot down stretch

PLANTERSVILLE – The Dallas County Lady Hornets won their fifth game in a row Thursday afternoon with a 9-3 victory over Central of Tuscaloosa.
With the win, the Lady Hornets’ record now stands at 13-5, and they have won 13 of the last 15 games.
Whitney Denson took the mound and quickly retired the first three hitters for Central on five pitches. Denson then led off the bottom of the inning with a walk. Albertina Miller came in to run and later scored on a single by Ciera Ingram.
Keneasha Jefferson became the runner for Ingram and scored on a passed ball as Debra Cunningham drew a walk. After advancing to second, Cunningham came around to score on single by Rodneshia Vinson.
The Hornets added two more runs in the second as Crawford singled to right and scored on a double by Kim Ross. Ross scored on a throwing error as the lead jumped to 5-0.
The Hornets went on to score three more runs in the third as Avery Mott added a hit to knock in a run, and Jefferson and Vinson both scored on passed balls.
One lone DCHS run was added in the fourth.
It was the Hornets’ second win in as many days after scrapping out a 2-0 win over John Carroll Wednesday.
Cassie Daniels went the distance on the mound, tossing a two-hitter and recording eight strikeouts.
Marianne Smith took the loss for John Carroll, tossing a two-hitter of her own.
Mller scored on a bunt play in the first inning, and Ross hit an inside-the-park homerun.
