Summer improvement projects planned for schools

Dallas County students will begin classes in the fall with some renovations to their schools.
The Dallas County School Board met in a special called meeting on Wednesday morning to approve the roofing, painting and cleaning projects for the summer.
The projects will be paid for out of two bonds from the state totaling $5.6 million.
“All of our schools will benefit from the bond money,” said Fannie Major-McKenzie, county school superintendent.
The major projects outlined by the school board are:
Dallas County High School: Replace roofing; install handicap ramp on both sides of the football stadium; clean columns on front of office building; replace fascia boards on shop building.
J.E. Terry Elementary: Replace roofing
Valley Grande Elementary: Replace roofing on two classroom buildings
Southside High School : Replace roofing on classroom building; replace windows with energy efficient ones
Keith: Replace roofing on a classroom building; replace windows at the front of the school with energy efficient ones
Career Technical Center:
Replace roofing on classroom building; pave drive; put up fencing
