Local Dixie League baseball players have anxiously awaited today as a select few will be notified of their selection to the Selma all-star teams.
The city of Selma may have a heightened anticipation as well. It will host several economy-boosting tournaments.
“The last time we hosted the state tournament, the Chamber of Commerce did a study on it,” said Elton Reese, director of Selma Parks and Recreation. “It was said to have brought in around half a million dollars over four days for the city.”
The Junior Dixie Boys will play in the district tournament in Eufala on July 18-21. They, like the Dixie Boys, are automatically in the sub-state tournament. If they win sub-state, they will play the north state champion in Selma July 25-27 for the right to advance to the Junior Dixie Boys World Series in Bluffton, SC.
The Dixie Boys will play in the district tournament in Thomasville on July 18-21. If they win sub-state, they will play the north state champion in Selma July 25-27 for the right to advance to the Dixie Boys World Series in Covington, GA.
The Dixie Pre-majors tournament will take place in Selma from Friday, June 20 through
Sunday, June 22. The round-robin tournament will feature Selma, Prattville and Wetumpka. The winner will advance to the state tournament in Scottsboro.
The Dixie Majors tournament will have only two teams – Selma and Prattville. They will play a 3-game series for the right to advance to the state tournament in Gunnersville.
