Darnella Furr

Mrs. Darnella Furr, 71, of Selma died on Monday, October 13, 2008. Services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, October 18, 2008 at Sandridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Milton Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Garden Cemetery with Miller Funeral Service, Inc. directing.
Mrs. Furr was a member of Sandridge Baptist Church where she was Vice President of the Choir and faithfully served until her illness. She was an independent, hard and smart worker and a role model for her family, friends, and associates. She worked at Selma Apparel as a top notch machine operator and Union Organizer for 15 years until she retired to care for her mother. She later managed several rental proper-ties with love and patience. Mrs. Furr was blessed with a ‘green thumb’ and enjoyed fishing, sewing, singing, and was an excellent cook. She left as her legacy the manifestations of her strength of character and her loving disposition.
Survivors include a very loving and supportive husband of 51 years, Jessie James Furr, Sr.; one son Jessie Furr, Jr., and four daughters Gloria Hasberry, Gladys (Leon) Perrin, Katina (Duane) Stewart, and Lynette Furr all of Atlanta, GA; four sisters, Amanda Jones of Selma, Rosa Mary Patton of Cleveland, OH, Floree (Levy) Myatt Sanders of Beloit, and Ora Brenda Gordan of Selma, and one brother, James Tate (Thera) of Detroit, MI; 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Louise Myatt and Frank Tate, and brothers Marion (Jane) and Frank (Pauline) Tate.
